Don't drop your gun
« on: August 15, 2012, 06:39:30 AM »
When I was 15, a long, long time ago, I was in the Hospital in Minneapolis recovering from surgery. In the bed next to me was a Minneapolis Policeman who had been shot. He was not awake and had a severe infection from his wound. I could hardly wait for him to wake up and tell me the story of shoot outs and bank robbers. He did finally wake up and told me his story. He was in the bathroom of a restaurant taking a dump when his service revolver fell out of his holster hit the floor and discharged. Oh well.

Man accidentally shoots self in Nevada movie theater
Published August 15, 2012
Associated Press
SPARKS, Nev. –  Police say a man accidentally shot himself in the buttocks at a Nevada movie theater during a showing of "The Bourne Legacy."
Police in Sparks, Nev., say the 56-year-old man's injuries are not life-threatening and no others were hurt.
Authorities say the man had a permit to carry a concealed firearm. The man told officers the gun fell from his pocket Tuesday night as he was adjusting himself in the seat and that it discharged when it dropped to the floor.
Authorities say the case will be sent to the city attorney for possible charges.
The incident comes less than a month after a shooting at a suburban Denver theater that left 12 dead and 58 injured.

A couple of years ago I had a dropped gun incident, thankfully it was merely embarrassing.

My lovely bride and I were attending a community theatre production, and since I was wearing a suit, I was carrying my Kel-Tec P-11 9mm in an Uncle Mike's IWB holster.  Having had a dumbass attack while getting dressed, I was wearing a stretchy dress-type belt with my suit.

Unbeknownst to me, as I settled my wide-bodied frame into the theatre seat, the bottom of the holster caught on the top of the seat's arm, pushing it up, and off, of the stretchy belt.  My suit jacket kept everything contained until I stood up at intermission.  It was at that point that I heard a thud, and looked down to see gun, holster and all laying on the floor.  This realization is nearly enough to cause what my paramedic friends refer to as a "Code Brown"!!

Fortunately, I was able to block view of the incident with a well placed size 15 dress shoe, and said to my wife, "Would you please pick that up for me?"  As she was looking down to where I was pointing, she replied, "Pick what...OH SHIT!!"

The gun spent the rest of the evening in my pants pocket, and that was the LAST time I have carried ANY kind of belt holster without wearing a STIFF leather belt!!

Marshal needs to add an "embarrassed" emoticon.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

I have battle scars on one gun, my short Ruger SBH, which quietly leapt from a crossdraw holster as my rotundness bent over to pick up a target frame in my shop a few years ago.  :-[

It dinged the edge of the rear sight and scuffed a spot on the cylinder.  :'(  :'(  :'(  :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
