Let me get this straight. If its on your property threatening your livestock you can't shoot it? I don't think I've heard of any rural area in the US where that is the case. That's insane.  I'd advise going into town and buying three pieces of vital equipment. A box of Remington Golden Sabres 147 gr +P, a shovel and a pick axe. Dog? What dog? Surely he must be at home in your fenced yard right? ;D

Two of my neighbors use to turn loose their dogs all the time. They started chasing my other neighbor’s cattle.  In the state of Ohio when they chase livestock or are on your property and show aggression they are subject to being dispatched (ORC 955.28). Getting back to the two idiots that told me that I was not allowed to dispatch their dogs that were chasing cattle. Well the dog warden put them straight and fined them.  Shotguns and SKS’s do a number on dogs. I just have one left that keeps getting into my chickens but that will be fixed here soon.

Replace the chickens with Emu's.
