Sent To Dish Network This Morning......
« on: September 14, 2012, 06:22:05 AM »
I am sick of paying for things I don't use and even more ill because it supports people and ideologies I do not like.  So...I sent the message below to Dish Network this morning.  No, I won't make a difference in and of myself...but maybe this can catch fire.  I'm going to cut off satellite when BHO gets re-elected.  I think it kinda says it all below:

"I understand the drive for revenue in setting up these packages.  Some of the networks/channels that come with the packages are offensive to me and I would prefer that they would receive no revenue.  For instance, CNN and MSNBC in my packages....I don't use them, don't want them and I would be OK with paying for them and you keeping all of the money in lieu of just being able to select the individual entertainment I want.

How about giving the subscriber an option to delete a channel that would stop their revenue and you guys get to keep it all?  Not that I want to pay you something for nothing...but it's worse than that now by supporting the otherwise disgusting people and commentary on MSNBC, CNN and others.

It's to the point where I am ready to cease all satellite service from any provider just to deny revenue to select networks/channels.  For me a better option would be total freedom to select what I wanted.....but I'll settle for cutting out the deadwood and letting you keep all of the money as a political statement."

You don't have to watch the channels you don't like Rastus, and that does hurt them. As in the age of digital, the companies know how many viewers they have. No need for those little consumer surveys Nielson used to send to selected consumers in the mail. As far as ala carte programming? From your mouth to God's ear, but as my Uverse guy explained to me when I asked, you'd be paying ten bucks a pop per channel if they did it that way. Most channels are owned by conglomerates which have multiple channels. Take your example of NBC. You get NBC, MSNBC, CNBC and probably others. There are two Food Network channels, Three National Geoghraphic chanels,  God knows how many ESPN channels, and Fox has at least six I can think of. We're stuck with the bundle. Puppy? ;D

Just a note,
MS and NBC parted company last month, I forget what the name was changed to but it is no longer called "MSNBC".

Actually, don't quote me on it, but I think it's NBCOnline.

My Sat TV shows it as mnbc on the guide. Same idiots, Matthews, MadCow, etc.

Rastus, if you don't tune to those channels they can't claim to advertisers that they have any ratings to speak of. (and they don't)

FQ,

They do not know what you watch unless you are hooked into a phone line, so unless you get the viewer poll they don't know.
Second, it is more a matter of paying for the channels.  You can't get Outdoor channel unless you purchase the largest package with DishTV.

I am, so they do, but I doubt that the other networks digital feeds don't track who watches what. Not a big brother thing, just how many viewers for X program.
