Navy submarine, Aegis cruiser collide during routine operations; no injuries, damage unclear

NORFOLK, Va. β€” The Pentagon said late Saturday that it is investigating why a Navy submarine collided with an Aegis cruiser during routine operations at an undisclosed location.
The U.S. Fleet Forces Command said in a news release that the submarine USS Montpelier and the Aegis cruiser USS San Jacinto collided at about 3:30 p.m. No one was injured, and the extent of any damage to the vessels was not clear Saturday evening, said Lt. Commander Brian Badura of the Fleet Forces Command.

No doubt it was Bush's fault.

At least one commander's Naval career has come to a screeching halt.  I wish those standards of responsibility applied in politics and the business world.

Both skippers are done.  When I was in, everyone down to the Helmsman was deadended, skipper, ex, OW, JOW, QMOW, BMOW, SMOW, all were done.  And their senior enlisted and officers got black marks too.  The only time I was allowed to crash one, was just before I dropped the ramp on the beach.

Yes, things have changed!

When they pulled his wings he had far, far more time to kiss his superiors asses!  One of the few ways officers can achieve promotion in today's Navy!  It started when I was still active 33 years ago and it's never slowed...incessant ass kissing is rampant!

Actually it sounds like both Commanders are just the sort of aggressive leaders the Navy needs.
Careers can be built or broke by a Sub driver who can get good photos of a carrier during these exercises, and by the Escort Captains who can stop them .
In Ichiban's post there is some major information missing.
Specifically, where did this happen ?
When I was in the Saratoga was one of the Carriers assigned to the Med, in 87 we were confronting Libya and there were several face offs that ended with Libyan pilots swimming home.
If they were in the Gulf of Sidra the pilot could not afford not to fire when told to.

Nepotism!

Did you read the part where his father was a commander of another ship and also a "naval aviator"?

He must have pulled some strings.

[Top Gun] if he was too close he could have switched to guns....[/Top Gun]

then he would have seen the US Air Force markings on the RF-4C.
