Allen Sheppard was a Navy Pilot and I don't think Robin Williams ever served in the military, at least not from a quick review!  He graduated from HS in 1969 and attended Julliard from 1973 to 76.  No mention of the years between on wiki..

I screwed up on Shepphard, I started from the top of my head, and he came to mind because he's a local boy.
Based on his appearance on "Inside the Actor's Studio" Robin Williams did 4 years in the USMC including one tour in Vietnam reaching the rank of Sgt.

Watched about 19 minutes and the only reference was his draft number of 351 and his relief of not being drafted.  He chose to go to college (junior) in a poly sci curriculum instead of enlisting.  The conversation went to his time at Julliard after that.

I like Robin Williams but he was never in the military as far as I can tell.

Later on when he's talking about disciplining his kids he mentions it.
That is, if I got the right show, I don't know how many times he was on it.

I don't know if he did or not, but a hitch in the Marines leaves a mark that's hard to hide, and I don't see it on Robin Williams..
I could be biased though.. Every time I see the guy he makes me think that he's out "Alan Alda'ed" Alan Alda..  :P

I don't know about that, look at Jonathan Winters or Drew Carey, can you visualize either of them in the first half of "Full Metal Jacket" ?  (Which I have to say is the most authentic depiction of Boot Camp I have ever seen, they even had the floor the right color. )
