Ever seen a "pretty" AR?
« on: December 18, 2012, 12:02:00 AM »
I hadn't seen a pretty AR till tonight..
http://www.turnbullmfg.com/store.asp?pid=36767
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=322196026
If I knew some way to CNC some pretty lumber for an AR or an AK, there might be a market for my labors..
I've never been a fan of black furniture.
This one is just a slap beautiful rifle..
It ain't as pretty as the price would suggest, mind you..  :o But pretty!!!
I wonder why the auction is run up more than twice what Turnbull has it for?.. That's alot of money for a rifle..

Some items are meant to be made of wood and steal, and some are intended to be made of other materials.  Turnbull makes some beautiful pieces, but this isn't one.

I shoot bolt actions that are blue and composite, and some are stainless and composite.  It is done for utility, but I still think they are prettier in wood and blue.  Besides "because we can" what is the purpose of the wood and case hardening on an AR?
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

It's serial number 1 with a bunch of zeros in front of it. Turnbull TAR-10 . 308- Serial # TAR-000001

I caught that after I posted it.. Makes sense, I guess. "Because they can"..
If it's a first rate build, with piston and all, 2K isn't that far out of line for a ready built AR, is it?
I've never had one outside the Army. I've shot a few but I think they shoot dirty. Prior to the piston being introduced to the platform, I would never have considered buying one.
I've never been a huge fan of the appearance of case hardening but the lumber on it really is pretty..
I love wood...

For those of you who love wood as well, here's a sad thought for you..
I spent 2010 in South America. EVERYBODY heats with wood. I was burning REDWOOD in the furnace, along with Mahogany and something I've never seen, that had most of the colors of the rainbow in it.. I'd just hang out at the wood pile and look at the stuff for an hour or more sometimes..
Made me sick to have to burn it!!! I wanted to load up a conex and ship it up here.. I just figured that trying would take the joy (and profit) out of it..

It's a Turnbull, they scrap better workmanship than most production companies sell.

Then it sounds like 2k isn't a bad price for it!
