Group Holds Panel On Gun Violence
« on: January 07, 2013, 12:44:23 AM »
Here is some more insight (or BS if you prefer) from the local anti crowd.....Interestingly enough, they are lying about the numbers again, but the reporter doesn't challenge them on it.....There are some quotes in here that are scary, though.....See what you think.

LYNDHURST--  A group of concerned citizens gathered for a panel discussion in Lyndurst Sunday evening.  The topic was reversing the trend of gun violence.

Organizers with the Ohio Coalition against Gun Violence pointed out that in 2012 there were a dozen high profile shooting incidents across the United States.  Those incidents have a lot of people giving our gun laws a second look.

Currently, 40% of gun sales are completed with no background check at all.  In the state of Ohio there are no laws requiring a permit to purchase, registration or licensing of a firearm nor anything requiring guns to be childproof.

Steve Ritchey knows there's no quick fix to gun violence.  Still, he believes banning assault rifles and limiting the amount of bullets is a start.  "We at the Coalition say that 10 is plenty enough," said Ritchey.

Before the panel got started several people gathered for a candlelight remembrance for shooting victims.  They remembered the Chardon high school shooting victims, those who died in the Colorado movie massacre and of then the children of Sandy Hook Elementary, and the adults who died trying to protect them.

"We don't want to forget for one minute even though all of those people were shot there, were children broke our heart we lose 32 people to homicide every day," said Ohio Coalition against Violence Director, Toby Hoover.

Since the Sandy Hook shooting more than 400 others have been shot and killed.  The OCAGV is hoping to eliminate further causalities by changing our laws.  What to do about guns has sparked a lot of debate.

Just last month, local NRA members told radio show host, Art McCoy that the only people capable of stopping a determined shooter, is a responsible gun owner.

But Jim Levin, a police officer and first responder to the Chardon School shooting believes that and arming teachers with guns would cause more harm than good.

"At the rate things are going now I see there being a very complicated different situation for us in the profession of responding to situations where citizens have taken it upon themselves to end the circumstances by drawing the firearm," said Levin.

So Officer Levin, does your training suck or just you?
Or are your response times so good that you will get there before the first shot or the second or....?
Aren't all shootings 'complicated different situations' or do you have a magic template that has a crystal ball?

You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

What the police officer meant to say: It's easier to sort out when the shooter kills himself and all we have to do is CSI. Now they are going to have to figure out who among the 10 on-scene gunmen who claim to have killed the perp actually did, so they can charge him or her with 2nd Degree Murder! See, it gets really complicated when all but the perp survive! And, further, why would we need so many first responders, pay them high salaries and conscience ridden pensions, let them carry assault weapons and dress like the SEALS they never were or ever going to be if we allow teachers and school administrators to be armed? That officer's comment is what we will be hearing from many of the police departments across the country. They are riding high on the pecking order right now and they want to keep it that way.

I saw a movie once where only the police and military had guns .

It was called "Schindler's List".

FIFY  Most bigger city administators, although come from the ranks, eventually forget thier past and start spouting the "party line" from the FOP which, OMG, is a UNION and gets all it's policies from the Dems.  Look at the NYPD or DC Metro.  The rank and file would rather have a dead perp and a couple of CCW holders to question than a stack of victims, but the CoP is on the news everyday saying "CCWs are bad and the treets will run red!"  Our local Sheriff gets it, he, and most of his Deputies would love it if MD had better CCW laws.
When seconds mean the difference between life and death, the police will be minutes away.

You are either SOLVING the problem, or you ARE the problem.

jnevis, agree with your fix. Thanks. We here in Frederick County have a great Sheriff, our local Joe Arpaio so to speak, but that won't last long as Democrats increase their hold on the county. Notice how MD drags its feet after the last federal judicial ruling re CCW?
