TRENDING: Reid formally introduces legislation to combat gun violence
Posted by CNN's Dana Bash and Ted Barrett

(CNN) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid formally introduced a much-anticipated gun bill Thursday, his office announced. The Senate is expected to debate the legislation when the upper chamber returns from a two-week recess.

The bill, released just over three months after the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, is made up of three measures. One measure expands the background check system, while the other two deal with school safety and gun trafficking.

A dead bill walking. Its perfect. It lets people mouth off and rile up the base, and then it dies. I'd be amazed if a third of it passes. Then it has to go through the GOP House. Good luck with that.

We need to make sure that "Universal Background Checks" part doesn't pass, or at least that no records keeping is allowed, otherwise it is registration in sheep's clothing, the anti's wet dream prelude to confiscation.

The AWB seems likely to fail as amendment, but it too is still another dragon to slay come april. Vigilance.

Repeal 1968 GCA.

That, and more, should be our goal.

If we were to do that, what exactly would happen?   I am not one to scream, the sky would fall and there would be blood in the streets, but I still have to wonder, what would happen.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.
