Kinda creepy what "they" know...
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:00:22 PM »
I bought some ammo. UPS transposed the 2nd and 3rd digits of my street address (in Alabama), "delivered" it, then took it back..
Then they sent it to Maine.....
That's not even quite the punch line!..
I've been fussing at them since two hours after they "delivered" it, about 25 hours now.
I'm guessing the shipper or the UPS Store he used got the address wrong. It happens.
The thing is, my phone number is part of the address. They said they didn't have it for the driver to call.
My beef is that they've delivered ammo to me before here, a number of times, and called me the first time, when they couldn't find the house.
Further, instead of looking at my name and history to see what the problem was, they sent it to my address in Maine, which has been "old" since 09. They've delivered MANY packages to me, here, once to my sisters address in town here, locally, and they decided it would be a good idea to send it to Maine!..
That's not the worst of it.. It gets a little creepy from here. The lady, (locally, finally) called me again to try to make me happy/stop fussing about it and in response to my asking her who thought it was a good idea to send it to Maine, she started rattling off addresses that predate UPS ever sending me ANYTHING.. She gave me an address in GA, (only one though). She didn't have anything in Kansas. She had two in Maine, one of which was a drop box that UPS never delivered to, and one from Florida, before I joined the Army and had never met a UPS driver...
I asked the lady, "Who gave you these addresses?!". She couldn't quite tell me. She said that she was in charge of getting rid of the old ones though. I demanded again that she, this time, (since she was the one in charge of getting rid of the old ones) call me to personally verify that the only address that UPS could ever access is the one I currently reside at.

Why did they send my stuff to MAINE??? Nobody could give me a coherent answer for that one, aside from that one being an old address in their system. I want to know how they decided that I was the same guy.. She said that the information given to UPS matched me with that address, but I've never given them a DL, and if I had, here, it would've been one from here..
Then she said my name, and the middle initial wasn't mine.. I did my level best to prevail upon her the importance that I be identified as who, and where I am, and no more or less..
How the hell did UPS get record of my address, in Florida, when I was living with my parents??!!

That's more than a little creepy, on top of being just plain wrong..

Rant..

Sounds like "they" implanted a chip at birth and have been tracking you from day one... I would get a full-body scan as soon as possible.   ;D

I was applying for something...I don't recall what it was, but part of the online verification was a question and answer session.

One of the questions was...of the 4 addresses listed which one did you ever live at.   That question was asked 3 times with 3 different lists and the past 3 addressed I lived at were included, one in each questions list.

If they have your social security number, they can find out a whole lot of stuff...just from tax filing history, taxes paid.  Addresses, occupations, family members...

I wasn't sure if the questions were geared at making sure I was me and giving the right answers or if their search had turned up several possibles and I was narrowing it down with specific matches.

Yeah, but this was UPS!
They don't have access to any SSNs, I hope, (or apparently, my phone number, for that matter..)

I dare not!! I might find myself on Americas Most Wanted or something..
Update on my package..
Two days after I told them "Wrong Way!!!", it just scanned departing Shrewsbury Mass. I don't know which direction it's going, East or South..
There was a time when "Departing Shrewsbury" was good news.. That time has passed..

I met the driver that didn't have the wherewithal to ask some simple questions. I didn't yell at him. "Bless his heart", he's not a finely honed tool.. More of an old wooden mallet.. He told me he hoped I got my stuff, as if to say that he couldn't say that about all his customers. I laughed, and he followed it up by saying that alot of folks yell at him when something screws up. I didn't know quite how to react. I laughed again and started talking about the cats, I think..
I wonder if they're gonna go ahead and deliver it to Maine, thinking that maybe I'll be there anyway..
UPS doesn't make a mess very often, but when they do... They do go all out..

they can do a name search.  Search for records from your address or other public documents and might trn a SSN

Then they can use it.

Big business in programs "bots" that mine data.

DL number is not locked up.  If you own your home, there are a lot of records IDed to you.

Most of this stuff, they don't have..
That does make part sense though as far as the place in Florida. I did own the place down there but I gave it to my step dad after my mother died.. That's been 20 years ago though!
KS would show up if it were linked to credit history, and it didn't..
The lady said that the info was provided to UPS by an outside source. The chain still doesn't make sense though..
Still creepy..  >:(

Just as a sad update.. They sent it all the way to Maine, attempted delivery and then decided there was a problem.. I called them an hour after they couldn't find me here, and they STILL sent it ALL THE WAY to Maine before they actually turned it around.. All the "information" they apparently have on me, and they couldn't get it done.. "All that information seems to have been the problem.. Had it been a firearm, I'd never see it.. Not convinced, at this point, if I'm gonna see this..  ::)

When I google myself, my air force academy address comes up from when I was a cadet from 1990 to 1994.  I find that weird because it pre-dates the internet.

When I was an intern at an intell center for the state police we had access to the Lexis Nexus database.  Anything public records wise would get uploaded to it.  If there was bad guy on the loose, we would get on Lexis Nexus to see what kind of assets he has.  Nobody ever told me the reason behind that, but my guess was they wanted to know hiw well the bad guy could lawyer up when he was apprehended.
