It is 11:30 pm and....

the people that bought the former stable behind me are riding atv's up and down the lane, the kids are yelling at each other, and the lights are flashing into the house.

Does it make me old if I'm a trifle peeved about this?

I don't want to call the police and start a neighbor war, especially when these jackwagons live in a town about 5 miles east of here.

I would like to get some sleep though.

I don't think it's worth it, though "I feel your pain".. I suppose something creative like hanging dead animals along the road could serve the purpose of putting out the "unwelcome mat". Maybe a couple of barrels of 90 weight across the trail or some dead skunks along side the trail or something..
I don't know.. Thick curtains for the light, and getting used to the difference between the trail and closer to the house.. If they're typical "youths", any suggestion of disapproval will soon lead to an unannounced visit from the offending neighbors.. Maybe ask the local Sheriffs Deputy for some advice?

I feel your pain.  The best advice I can give is to accept that tonight is a lost night.  Tomorrow is the time to go talk to the owners about the situation.  Be calm, rational, and even if you are drawing a line in the sand, make it sound like a negotiation.

But first, start a journal.  Record tonight's events - details of dates, times and activities.  Keep this journal faithfully, and include all of your contacts and copies of any written communication.

Try to not be the cranky neighbor, but stand up for your rights.  You were there first, and this is one of those things where their property rights do not override yours.

Law enforcement will tell you that if you do want them involved, they must witness the actions.  So don't wait until they are done riding to call.  If you do encounter this and the activity ends before law enforcement arrives, video and your journal will help them to at least make a visit.

Good luck!  I hope a simple neighborly talk can provide you with some sense of comfort on your property and not ruin the possible friendship.

Shining the lights into the house is a big deal for me, ( and something I would be careful not to do)  that being said it is the last major holiday weekend of summer.  So a party does get a free pass as long as it stays under control.   still would have been nice to get a heads up about a party.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Order part human skeleton on line, a simple thighbone should be enough.
Wait to the bastards have gone from the area and then casually go and place recently acquired human remains in their barn or yard and half bury.
Make anonymous call to the police ad tell them you think you saw some one burying a body as you drove past "X" address.
A couple things will happen, police will dig up all their place, break concrete, pull place apart and generally make unlivable. They will also cordon off area until proper forensic study is made meaning no access for bike hoon's (aussie slang for young dick heads) and party dwellers for quite a while.  ;D

The way my Dad handled such situations was to get in a little shotgun practice the following morning.
5AM is a good time since such parties usually involve alcohol and resulting hangovers .  ;D

Its also a good way to get the DEA to chop up all your firewood, anon call tell them they are storing drugs in hollowed out logs, make sure you have a few tonne to chop up first before calling.  ;D
