I know only a few police officers are like this, but the question I ask is:  

If police officers witnessed a citizen slam another citizen into a cement bench hard enough to cause this damage, that citizen would have been taken into custody.

Why wasn't that police officer?  You've heard it said...if you look the other way on behavior like this, you are condoning it  That has to stop.  That officer should have been cuffed and sitting in a cell until the  proper procedures were followed to release him.

Yep, its like you with crooked contractors or your wife with quack doctors. They pose more of a threat to you than they do to us as they give you a bad name and make your jobs harder and impact your income. Same with rougue cops. You'd think decent cops would stomp on these guys out of pure self interest. Instead they circle the wagons. I will never get that.

You can blame police unions for that. They are pressured by their unions to protect each other. Otherwise they are threatened with their pensions if they step out of line. So even if they WANT to do the right thing, they would lose everything they have worked for by doing it.

Its more the "us against the world" mentality than the unions. The "Blue Wall" long predates police unions.

Several years ago, maybe 20 or so, the news reported an accident on a local road and a teenaged boy was cited for reckless driving...causing an accident with property damage and some injuries..no one critically.

The next day the story broke as a police officer at the accident testified that an off duty cop was driving drunk and caused the accident.  He drunk cop was removed from the scene by other officers and things were arranged so the kid would take the rap.

I didn't think to get the names of the drunk officer or the whistle blower, but I do wonder what paths their careers took.

I suspect the whistle blower would have remained silent had the drunk cop hit a tree and his vehicle was the only thing damaged, but while he might look the other way for that, he couldn't let an innocent kid be framed.

Some may call that whistle blower foolish, but I'd say he showed true courage...just what should be expected from every police officer.  A

Anything less makes them a group of thugs.  Throw in SWAT gear and you have Jack Booted Thugs.
