Stimulus Check going fast, another Gun Show in town,...
« on: July 14, 2008, 06:51:00 AM »
Well, my son and I went to the "Real Wilmington Gun Show", that's how its advertised, and many vendors including my local gun shop were all there; and I caved.... ::)

Just traded in to my local gun shop, at the show, for a pistol was a "Pristine" Winchester Model 94AE 30-30.

They had just put a tag on it for $299.00. :o The previous owner was filling out his paperwork and was an "older" gent, and said it was a gift from his son-in-law, but he had bad or botched knee surgery, and doesn't hunt anymore.

He never shot it, his son-in-law never shot it, and there isn't a mark on it. (Except fingerprints).  The price for the show was discounted by $100-150, and if nobody bought it it would sell for more back at the gun shop.

QUESTION: What does the AE stand for? I know its a newer production, and may be one of the last ones made before Win. closed.
Of course, I defer to the knowledge here for an answer.

I might need Gun Buyer's Anon.  ;D But I have always loved the Win 94. and I thought it was a great deal.
Oh, and the ammo deals were not bad either so I made the boy complain about carrying a couple hundred more rounds to the truck. Geeeeez Dad, this is heavy, do you need this much? You already got plenty,.... 8) etc,....

Hell, when I'm gone he's going to get them anyway....
Thanks

The AE designation stands for "Angle Eject".  It allows you to mount a scope to the rifle.

Nice Buy TW!  I aquired a 94 about 2 months ago.  The only thing I don't like about them is the 'lever safety'.  That button under the lever that has to be depressed for it to fire.  To me it is uncomfortable to have to squeeze the lever to make it go 'bang'.  I removed mine BUT it can cearte an unsafe condition as it will now fire with out the bolt being completely closed.  Gotta be cafeful somewhat, keep your booger hook off the bang switch!

Thank you CDR, I am on the fence about mounting a scope on such a classic design. I don't hunt, (except melons, water jugs, etc,,) and I like the speed and inherent accuracy without one.  But I have another 30-30 1894-1994 Anniversary Ed. SO if I did scope it up, it would be this one for the AE.

Thanks again,

Tom W

TW,

Here's a place to find the year of MFG by serial number

http://armscollectors.com/sn/windates.htm

Thank you Haz, my serial # is 62361**, the site stops at 5103,.... those dates go to 1982, I think this one is one of the last made. I appreciate all the info and links. The last bit of stimulus I kept (after the wife took her share), might get me something like Ksail got or a Model 325 PD by S&W. ;D With the 2.5" barrel. Having a "snubbie" crave going on,...
