CombatVet made his parting remarks well known, specifically regarding his thoughts on how the initial Free Gun Giveaway took place.

I agree with his right to voice his opinion,  but certainly do not agree either with the methodology chosen, or the actual point he made.  By cross-posting 21 entries of the same discourse, he certainly wanted to see his point made, so I believe we should consider that he made his point on his way out of the forum.

As the founder of this Forum, I certainly wish I could make everyone happy. I suspect that's not possible on the Internet. I've been distracted of late in helping with the response to Virginia Tech as well as getting our COWBOY and BLACK RIFLE channels up, but I don;t want to let anything fall through the cracks...if there are problems, please be sure to let Marshal or I know and we'll do the best we can to fix it...

I too thought the contest was for those who watched the video or registered for the site but that response was just plain loopy.
Sorry Michael but no good deed goes unpunished.

As I said before, I am sorry about that! We're changing the giveaway front so that the smal print is clearly linked. As I said, I'm also trying to put together a giveaway for Forum members exclusively to try and make it up to you guys.

Again, thanks for staying with us.

Michael,

I don't know about anyone else, but as far as I am concerned your giveaway is one more opportunity than I had before to win a great looking gun.  Thank you for the change at winning, maybe I will next time.  Oops got to go you are on TV right now and I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks for the chance to win Michael.  Not too many places around that do something like this.  Hey, it's free.  I'm looking forward to the chance to win the next give a way.  If any one out there wants to pay for the chance to win a very fine Winchester 1873 they could get a hold of me.

We are going to raffle it off for $10.00 a try.  Only 1000 tickets sold.  The engraving and antique nickel finish was done by Mark Hoechst here in Bismarck.  The pictures do not do it justice.  Barrel has been relined.  The wood is original and looks good.  The money will help fund an indoor 50 meter range that is under construction now.  The range will be used for bullseye, light rifle, small bore position shooting, instructional classes, ect.  We hope to be shooting in it next winter.  The Associations web site is http://www.bmrpa.org  If you have questions or are interested in a ticket please let me know.  I will except any type payment.  Personal check, money order........  If you want the stubs send a SASE along to.
Thanks for looking!

Send funds to:

Blaine Erikson
5207 Junction Road
Bismarck ND 58503

and I'll fill out your tickets.

I can attest to Mark's skill at engraving, as a member of the BMRPA (Bismarck-Mandan Rifle and Pistol Assoc.) I have seen some of his work at the local gun shows. I have not seen the rifle in question, though, as I have been working in PA for the last 4 months and have missed the meetings on Monday nights. Good cause, it will be a great range. Our outdoor range already is something to behold.

How does anyone think they have reason to get upset over the giveaway? It was free! For all I know, all the entrants signed up online... you weren't required to register for the forum to sign up for the giveaway. Nor do I think it matters; these things are meant to be promotional. The more entrants, the more exposure and, I suspect, the more likely it'll be done again.
In any case, there was absolutely no way to make CombatVet happy. If he had won, he would have complained about paying the taxes on the package.

Hey Pathfinder!  The rifle is down at Gun City in a nice display case.  When you get back to town go and take a look.  Mark does do an excellent job.  I am also wondering if I know you.  I know a lot of the members but I too am not a regular meeting goer.  I have a couple of monkeys (kids) that take up a lot of free time.

+1 on what Tim Burke had to say. How many other forums give you a chance at a nice custom gun? It didn't cost a thing to register so what did it really matter. If that's the way someone like CombatVet is going to conduct himself I don't think I'm going to miss him.
