Gonna Need the Day Off, Boss
« on: August 11, 2014, 09:24:07 PM »
Been waiting a long time for this.   Bass Pro is on the other side of Atlanta, this will be just up the street.  (11.2miles to be exact, not that I drove it last month to see or anything.)

They started to build this about 6 years ago, further out of town, but business climate and politics got in the way.    My hope is to be one of the first 10 or so reloaders in the door and they've squirrled away some powder for the grand opening.   Just 4 or 5 pounds of Unique and Power Pistol is all I ask.

Wife points out the post card was mailed to her not me.  Gotta love a woman who's higher on the marketing list that you are.

Well now you're screwed.  ;D
You'll spend as much time in there as I do the one here!

I hope you do score some needed powders.
I just got back from mine and plenty of primers but no powder. (unless you reload 50 BMG)

The one here in Glendale opened in 2006, and I don't think 3 weeks have gone by when I don't think of a reason to go in there. I very rarely come out empty handed.

Wife and I rode our Spyder to the Columbus, Ohio Cabela's.  !00+ mi. one way.  Nice way to relax and enjoy the day.  Didn't have the $ for ammo but did use our points for matching rain coats and I bought a 3 season coat for her.  Plenty of ammo to be had there!

The one here in Glendale opened in 2006, ...

billt, KMitch and I met up there last fall and he took me on a tour of the store.  So much better BPS, especially in the reloading area and I think clothing.   I ended up with several shirts and some other paraphernalia.

What was cool was I found the shirts, but didn't want to pay the tag price.  The clerk looked them up on-line and marked them down to the on-line price.  A 30% savings.

This is common with Cabela's. They always seem to have lower prices on line. Especially on ammunition. I always check the on line price, and print it out. They will always sell it to you at the lower price.

I love Cabela's.... I buy a lot online from them.

Good to see they are finally filling out the map in the southeastern region. Six or so years ago, the closest store in my corner of the world was in Gonzales, LA. Now there are going to be three in Georgia....just a shame they are all in the upper half.  :(

Looks like they could throw one in the southern region to cover south Georgia and north Florida. Valdosta or even Tallahassee, Florida would work.

All we have is an abundance of Gander Mountains......and they are too high priced for my blood.

I've got a Cabelas 75 miles from me in Hartford and a BPS about 35 miles away next to Gillette Stadium where the Patriots play.

Cabelas won't sell me ammo anymore (so I'm told) because the laws in CT are getting nearly as bad as MA, and a number of other states, so I've not visited in the last three or four years.  Opened in 2007.

BPS is always crowded, lack ammo and other sundries, and lacks personnel that know anything about firearms.  Rarely have I found a deal on a handgun I couldn't find cheaper at my local FFL.  I only go a few times yearly now.  Long drive for little gain...

Kittery Trading Post in ME is worth the 1-1/2 hour trip but I never carry enough cash in there because I can't trust myself.  I could drop a months pay on fishing gear every time I walk in the door.  It's the one place I check constantly for the lever action I've been pining for...

So, I'm sure you're dying to know how the GRAND OPENING went.

Well, bummer.   Not only do I have a summer cold but I severely underestimated the turn out Thursday.   The doors were to open at 11am so I planned on being there at 9.  Poor planning.  The line was almost wrapped around the building.  Parking was being directed off site with shuttle busses running people back and forth.  I turned the car around and went home.   Good call, 'cause   I talked with someone who got there at 8am and didn't get one of the 500 gift cards.

HOWEVER, on Friday I got up there about 1pm.  Parking lot was full but I did get a space right by the building on the "boat and tractor" end.  Signed up for the Cabela's club.  And went shopping.   It really wasn't that crowded, BUT there were far too many tire kickers.   I watched two guys hog an end cap of self defense ammo.  They opened and examined every brand and type.  Then they just wandered away.  15 minutes and they weren't buying anything!    gr.r.r.r.r.r.    But I had patience and my shopping list and for the most part filled the cart.

POWDER:   Not a lot.  They had room on the shelf for about 10 different powders and the shelf could only hold about 4  1# cans of each.  Of course, there were none of the pistol powders, though the shelf was marked for Tightgroup and CFE-Pistol.    THEN.  Then I heard a customer asking a store rep when they were going to restock the Tightgroup.  The customer said he had been in this morning and was promised they'd bring more out after lunch.   I quickly chimed in and asked about CFE, too.  It took about 10 minutes, but Dennis (the other customer) and I each walked away with 2#s.  That was the buying limit per day.   SO YES!  Scored 2#s and have already loaded up 500 .38Short Colts.

They had lots of .22lr, which they limited to one large carton or 2 small boxes, if you were buying the better stuff.  I got 100rds of CCI Standard Velocity, which is all I shoot in my guns.

I was getting tired and didn't get everything on the list, but there will be time to go back.  Only disappointment was the holster section was rather small.  Oh, well we have store in town with three 50' aisles, 6' high of nothing but holsters.

Can't wait to go back.
