TIME'S UP! Last SR9 report outta me...
It was suggested to me that I really try to get tight with my retrofitted SR9. I have done that for about a month, with working on break in, dry firing, and blowing all of my ammo allowance on the effort.
Tonight I went out and put 50 more rounds through the SR9 to just look at the targets and think. I have actually gotten to where I can shoot it reasonably well if I concentrate hard- about as well as I can shoot my wife's revolvers (which I rarely shoot). Having said that, it took a ridiculous amount of dry firing, whacking away at the springs, whatever, and about a case of ammo this past month to get to this point.
Bottom line is, if it felt this way in the store I probably wouldn't have bought it. The trigger now is crisp (breaks well) and hard (too hard), and it's very easy to pull off laterally. I can't tell if all my break in efforts have changed the trigger a little or if I've just gotten a little more accustomed to the thing because I'm shooting nothing else. My bottom line is that I don't like the trigger.
Having said that, I think a part of it is that it's not comfortable for me, and that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a POS or defective- just not comfortable to me. I guess what I"m trying to say is, I still don't like the way it shoots, but I can NOT say that it's all because of the gun or that the gun is defective- it just doesn't work for me.
I still think my initial criticisms of Ruger were valid. They completely changed the feel of the gun after a lot of people owned them, and yes they were on top of the recall after a four month engineering delay, but then were basically not too responsive beyond saying, "Hey we'll let you send it back and we'll look at it some more". Oh, and also saying, "Geez what's all that nasty SR9 noise on the forums..?"
I've seen a couple of folks post that they love the new trigger- God Bless Ya and good luck- I am truly happy to see someone find true love. Also a warm and fuzzy article here on the website talking about the greatly improved trigger. (N/C)
So...it looks good, feels good in the hand, the slide is a little hard to handle being so low, and the trigger is just not for me, resulting in accuracy (for me) that is so-so at best. So, folks, if you buy something without firing one once, shame on you. OR if you buy something that hasn't been out long enough to work out the bugs, shame on ya' again. That's uncle Jay's lesson for tonight.
At least it LOOKS good next to the Sig on the rack.
