McCain - Palin 2008
« on: August 29, 2008, 08:31:16 AM »
Speculation about who John McCain would name as his running mate focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin after reports circulated early Friday that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out out of the running.

Adding fuel to the Palin possibility was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage had arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice.

Palin is considered a rising star in the Republican Party. She is the state’s first female governor, the mother of five — and at 44 is its youngest chief executive.
Pray for Obama. Psalm 109:8

Now confirmed, Sarah Palin is indeed McCain's running mate.

This old boy may have just pulled his cookies out of the fire. Although Palin has some legal baggage coming out of the Governors office, on first blush it looks like a home run. She is pro-life pro-gun and married to a Native American and mother with a special needs child. Damm she is even photogenic. What a pick !!!

Well, well, well. Now here is an interesting move by McCain. I don't really think that it is a bad move by McCain, but I'm not really sure that it is a good move yet. It definitely changes the subject from Obama's speech last night.

The good news...

1) She is known as a conservative
2) She is an outsider
3) She is a woman
4) She is young
5) She is attractive
6) She is a non-nonsense, family values, self described "soccer mom"

Yes, some of those points are politically incorrect to say but...unfortunately, many people make their choices on less...if not, how could Obama be so popular?

Here's the bad news...

1) She is unknown by most of the US (Alaska might as well be Siberia for most people)
2) She has a short resume

On one hand you could say she will bring a solid conservative bent (trying to appeal to the base...something Romney wouldn't have done), she's not of the "old guard", and she may attract some Hillary supporters.  One the other, no one knows her and it potentially hurts the argument against Obama's lack of experience.

It is a really nice counter point to Obama's pick of a crazy radical, inside the beltway wacko like Biden.

All, in all, I'm positive on the pick.  I wonder how she'll do in a debate with Biden...he can be nasty.

It's a GREAT move. Obama talks about change and picks one of the oldest good old boys in congress. McCain picks a newcomer, mother, Alaskan, all of that. Hillary voters have somewhere to go. It removes the bigotry argument. It is also historic to some degree. It also negates the republican= white guys argument (reverse racism).
Her lack of experience can be held up to Obama's GREATER lack of experience, plus she's only VP. She's a reformer, a mother of five (one kid with Downs syndrome), I've heard she's married to a native american, and she is tough- one journalist was quoted as saying that, "The political landscape is littered with the bodies of those who have crossed Palin". AND she's HOT! I love it. Oh yeah...life member of the NRA.

The only downside are the guys that won't vote for a woman, but those same guys probably wouldn't vote for a black guy either so that's a wash.
A brilliant stroke by McCain.

I had my doubts about McCain, but after looking at his wife and now his hot VP- he's a HELL of a guy. His team is showing some real brain matter, and I'm finally excited about something here.

She is a life member of the NRA and strong supporter of 2A.
Her resume is no shorter than Obama's
She don't have key members of her own party saying she's "not ready on day one"
When people hear her speak, they will be amazed.  Obama has watched her to copy some of her technique.
I emailed McCains site Mon and pleaded for him to pick Palin.
Now I'm confident we'll have 12 years of pro-second amendment leadership.
