One time I heard that a radio station had a contest to see could save up the most daylight. I don't know what the winner was supposed to get.

It was a newspaper, not a radio station.

I have rub-off dementia from spending too much time around my mom. What's your excuse?  ;)

I had a good case of jet lag last week.  I hate the time change but that going from 10PM at night to 7AM in the morning is a real zinger.
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

I STILL don't like Daylight Saving Time. No surprise there, eh?  Sunset is before 5 pm, 4:59. It's even worse in New England. Sunset today was 3:54 pm in Bangor, Maine. Like I said, Hello Darkness My Old Friend. You'll Soon Be Here By 4 p.m. It's the only time of the year when we need more daylight, and the only time of the year we don't have DST. If they're going to have it at all, it should be in the winter and no other time of the year. We don't need it in the summer when it's still daylight at 10 p.m.

Frank,

I hate the constant back and forth, but for those of us still working a daily job, DST gives us the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors more. With DST I have the opportunity to play a full 18 after work for about nine weeks per summer, and a minimum of 9 for over six months. In the winter it doesn't much matter where you set your clocks, because the daylight hours are so limited we rely on Thomas Edison.

My  vote is to end the switch, but lock in on daylight saving time as the standard.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

DST is good for golfers, but what about the 94+% of Americans who don't play a single game of golf all year? Doctors, lawyers, politicians, and the rich and powerful like to play golf, so the law caters to them. It's not fair to the majority of people that the minority have their way. If you want to play golf go ahead and do it, but don't demand an extra hour of time and make everyone else bend to your will.

If you work 9 to 5 and it gets dark at or before 5 p.m. you have to drive home in the dark. An extra hour of daylight would mean you can make a quick stop at the store after work and still get home before dark. And if you're like me and never worked a 9 to 5 job in your life, it can be even worse. When I worked 1st shift I drove to work in the dark, worked indoors all day where there aren't any windows, and if I worked over until 6, drove home in the dark all winter. A lot of us went days at a time without ever seeing the sun. From November 2021 through March 2022 the peak for fatal crashes was from 4 p.m. to 7:59 p.m. During the spring and summer months, fatal crashes tended to peak between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. There are more FATAL car crashes after dark than before. DST should be banned for safety reasons. It's killing a lot of people every year.

Am I the only one who felt jet-lagged at work when DST started and ended? I was all screwed up for 2 weeks getting used to it. I only slept 5 hours or less most nights, and DST cut 20% off of that until I got used to sleeping at different times. Working on 4 hours of sleep or less for several days straight is dangerous. I have the scars to prove what lack of sleep can do.

I’m evidently one of the few who isn’t bothered at all by the time change. I like the longer hour daylight in the summer.  I’m more bothered by the shorter daylight time in the winter than anything else.
