Fried jumbo shrimp, pork chop, and turkey chops, with sides of red beans and rice, and spicy cabbage, and a piece of sweet cornbread to top it off. I made sure my route home from visiting my mom today took me past the Soul Goode Food Truck that's always parked across the street from one of the big new GM plants. I finally stopped there for the first time, and it won't be the last. Last year, I thought my brother who works in that plant said Soul Goode was building a restaurant where the food truck (trailer) is parked, but there's still no new building. I sat in the car programming some XM radio stations for 10 minutes, since I didn't do it after getting a new battery, and my food was almost ready by then. They said 10-15 minutes, which was completely accurate.
I washed my meal down with Vernors Limited Edition Black Cherry Ginger Soda. Woody the Gnome approves of the new flavor but James Vernor, who died 95 years ago, may be rolling in his grave. Or after 156 years he might agree it was time to mix things up a little. Either way, it's good stuff, and I hope they do more limited edition flavors. Once while eating wild blueberries straight from the source, and drinking Vernors, I found out it was a really great combination. So a blueberry ginger ale, odd as it sounds, may taste just as good. By the way, Vernors ginger ale is 20 years older than Coca-Cola, and is America's oldest soft drink to the best of my knowledge. Vernors = Medicine in Michigan, and always has. The last time I was in the emergency room (16 hours?), one of the nurses told me they had Vernors and diet Vernors in the other room if I wanted any. Got a stomach ache? Drink a Vernors. Had surgery and can't go home until you drink something? Have a Vernors.
Now it's time for dessert, Hostess cupcakes. I have orange and chocolate flavors setting here, so I'll probably have both. After I eat another meal tonight, I'll have some dark chocolate covered walnuts. I think this is the first time I bought them. They have a lot of chocolate on them and taste good to me. They aren't nearly as sweet as milk chocolate covered cashews or pecans, but that can be a good thing.
P.S. The next time I go to Soul Goode I want to try the alligator bites. It's been a really long time since I had alligator, and that was in an etouffee or jambalaya. So I can't honestly say I know what gator tastes like.
