I hate thieves
« on: March 12, 2020, 01:30:37 PM »
Some jack ass broke into my truck last night, got half a roll of quarters, my jumper cables and mag light.  The  window installed from ford is just over $1000, which is my deductable. So not worth a claim.

Funny thing when i called the local pd to make a report.  They actually showed up and 20 mins latter to take the report.   From what they told  me, its been happening in the neighbourhood.  They also know who it is by name( cameras at other places) and are actively looking for him.

Tab, if you have glass coverage there shouldn't be any deductible, Might want to double check your policy.

Man that sux.

Breaking and entering...I've lost two stereos once.  The first time they knocked out a window.  Got that fixed and then a week after I replaced the hole in the dash with a new one....voila'.  Busted door again.

Yeah, I hate thieves too.

Glass is covered differently in different states.  Mine is free by state law but only windshield and rear windows.  Side glass, no!

In CT, if you don?t pay for that rider, glass has no replacement coverage unless it?s due to a collision.

Windshield  only with my policy.    If thry had smashed the windshield kt would have been $50. I could  have a lower comp deductable, but the increase is cost is not worth it.  Its ~$300  year to drop it down to $250.  So it really makes no sense to do so.

WARNING:  THREAD DRIFT AHEAD!

Automobile glass marketing is a strange animal, to put is kindly.

Industry standard is that insurance take a 50% discount on all glass bills they cover.

So, PPG, Saf-T-Lite, et al, doubled the price of the glass:

Dealer/Shop purchases glass for $100, and sells for $150.  Until insurance companies start their 50%.  New pricing, Dealer/Shop pays $100, and sells for $300, and gets paid $150.

Tab,  Shop your window replacement, and make sure they understand this is out of pocket, with no insurance coverage.

I called around, only the dealer could do it with oem glass that was not next week.   I could get it with aftermarket, but my exp with aftermarket  glass has been very poor.  Even used glass was 4-5 days out.

It retailed for $800 for the parts, i paid $400, but 3 hours of labor hurts.  Which  i knew was bs, but i also did not want to wait.
