I thought the 2 halves of the TREK-22 stock were split right down the middle, all the way around. But where the Picatinny rail is on top, instead of being split down the middle, there's only a mold parting line in the plastic. The 2 halves are actually joined together on the right side of the pic rail, right where the angle of the dovetail comes back to the vertical part of the rib. There's just barely enough room there to mount an optic on the rail and not have to remove it every time you take the stock off to clean the gun or work on it. I took mine all apart and replaced the tight-fitting solid steel bolt stop pin with a blue rubber recoil buffer that I'm pretty sure was an old Wilson Combat Shok-Buff brand. They don't make them anymore, but I have a black one made by someone else in my 10/22.

I put just a drop of E6000 Industrial Adhesive on all 10 hex nuts to try to keep them from falling out the next time I split the stock. And I used a few drops to try to keep the rear QD sling cup in the left side of the stock too, because it falls out really easily when the stock halves are separated. E6000 is made by the same company that makes Goop and a bunch of other stuff too. My friend likes E6000 for some things because it has a small hole in the nozzle, instead of a toothpaste-like tube with a big hole that Goop uses because it's more viscous. I took the green ERGO ladder-style rail covers off my VRF14 and replaced them with black rail covers. And I put the OD Green rail covers on my OD Green Trek-22, from the red dot mount, all the way to the front. I still need to buy a front QD sling swivel mount to go in the M-LOK slots on one side, and a flashlight mount for the Desert Camouflage Olight Warrior Mini 2 flashlight that was on my 20" AR for the other side. And I think I'll put an OD Green M-LOK AFG - Angled Fore Grip on it too, about as far forward as possible. That should be about it for this gun, but I still need to buy a Pic rail for my 10/22 so I can mount a scope.

I put the Vortex SPARC II that was on my MechTech CCU on this gun, and the SIG Romeo MSR will go on the CCU. The Romeo MSR only has a 20mm objective lens, and the SPARC II is 22mm. I figured I could use the extra 10% lens size on this gun, and a little less on the CCU with a 3X magnifier will still work. I don't want to weigh this gun down with a magnifier when the 10/22 will probably have a 3-9x or 4x scope on it. I also have a 2.5x scope I think I bought for a shotgun. This mount is slightly lower than the mount the red dot was on, which I put back on the CCU. It's like the difference between an absolute co-witness and a lower 1/3 co-witness, so I would have to use an adaptor plate to get the height on the CCU to match the magnifier with this mount. But the slightly lower height seems like it will work okay on the Trek-22. If not, I can start stacking adaptors to make it as tall as I want to.

Here's a closeup of my new .22 that shows how well the OD green rail covers match the color of the stock. A dozen different colors of ERGO MODULAR WEDGELOK RAIL COVERS for M-LOK slots have the M-LOK "M" logo in the middle of each section like mine. But they make Dark Earth color with the "ERGO" logo on them. And Black is available with the M, or with a USA Flag. Two strips in a 4-pack are facing each direction, so the flag can be assaulting forward on either side of your gun. I'll have to take some of the rail covers off and shorten them when my orders from Midwest Industries and Magpul get here.

I was shopping online today for more accessories for both .22 rifles when it occurred to me I should have some backup sights on this one in case the battery dies in my SPARC II red dot. Then i realized that I already had a pair of backup sights that I wasn't using, the ones that came with my VRF14. The only time I flipped the sights up and used them on the "not-a-shotty" was when I fired off some flares that seemed to have no recoil, like a BB gun. I was afraid of knocking my teeth out if I tried to aim it while shooting slugs. So, here's what it looks like with the lens covers up and down, and with the backup sights up and down. The small aperture is useless to me, because that far from my eye, I can't see anything through it. It's just a blurry spot in the middle of the sight. But when I flipped it over to the large aperture it looked okay. The front sight narrows to a point, so it's not very good, but it will work in an emergency.

I had packages from Midwest Industries and Magpul show up today. Now I have the Trek-22 set up the way I want it. Besides the M-LOK AFG - Angled Fore Grip - O.D. Green, I got a Magpul Barricade Stop – M-LOK - O.D. Green. The Barricade Stop is constructed of a stout polymer body that’s fit with a hardened, QPQ salt bath nitrided steel plate insert. The steel plate is heavily textured for aggressive contact with your shooting rest. It’s also slightly curved for optimized contact on uneven surfaces, giving you the ability to pivot your firearm while maintaining contact and control. I like to have my index finger in front of the stop on the AFG, because it's more comfortable than trying to fit my whole hand on the grip. And there's plenty of room for my finger behind the barricade stop. I got an M-LOK QD Sling Mount for the front of my sling. I had to put it on the right side and not near the front, to keep it away from my hand on the short forend.

I got a Magpul Rail Light Mount that comes in Left or Right hand versions. It positions the light high and cantilevered forward at the 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock position. I got the right-hand model, and instead of the light being on the upper right, it's on the upper left, because the Picatinny rail is on top, not on the right side. It worked out just like I planned it, but I had to grind away part of the back of the mount. Where it was tapered, it's now flat, and it doesn't hit the big bump around the screw where the 2 halves of the stock are screwed together. The Olight Warrior Mini 2 Desert Camo flashlight is the one I had on my 20" AR before I switched to a bigger light. And I have a Midwest Industries Tactical Bottle Opener, M-LOK, like I do on all of my guns with M-LOK slots. :)  They can also be used as barricades stops, but small ones.

One of the things I got Thursday was a Scope Mount Compatible with Ruger 10/22 Receivers and Clones, from Midwest Industries. It's a 4.625" long 11-slot Picatinny Rail, that only weighs 1.6 ounces, including the screws. I had to drill out 1 of the plug screws in my receiver, so the hole is oversized and the screw isn't holding very much. Another screw feels like it stripped the hole when I put the mount on, but the 2 rear screws are holding well. Hopefully the Loctite keeps all of the screws in place. I put my old, beat up, Tasco 4x scope on, with the rings that were already attached to it. It has a Bikini Scope Cover on it when it's not posing for pictures. I had to drill both screw heads off the sides of the Tech-Sights front sight to get it off. I replaced the front sight with the bottom half of a broken blade and filed it flat before I put the threaded adaptor back on the muzzle. Now, I just need to get a cheek pad on the stock to raise my eye up to the scope. I used to have one made of closed cell foam, and it was self-adhesive so it stuck onto the stock. It wasn't very good, but it did the job.

I have a TITAN Universal Cheekrest Kit, FLAT DARK EARTH on order from Victor Company USA. They make them in BLACK and O.D. GREEN too, but I thought FDE would look the best with real wood, like my walnut stock.
