I picked up the Tac 4 yesterday and shot it at the range and I really, really, hate it!  ;) Seriously, I really like it and I think it will rotate with Glock 30 as my primary carry gun. But the gun did come without some "issues" though. The prior owner decided to glue a tac rail to the dust cover. The sight of that did not go well with me, but I thought the gun was still worth the price I paid for it. As far as shooting performance, my groups were very tight at 7 yds.

The gun has ambidextrous safeties and really nice grips, which I think these are after market. I do plan to buy extra 13 round mags.
Do any of you have some suggestions for a good holster?

I am trying to figure out how hold it is. I looked at the extractor and it appears to be much bigger than the extractor on my Springfield 1911. The box it came in stated it was made in Canada and the box has black lid with a white sides and bottom. Does anyone have an idea about how old it might be?

Between Tom Gresham and Michael B, I think they have sold more guns than anyone in history, well maybe short of arms dealers to the Third World.  ;D

Thanks to all for your help! DRTV is a great resource!!!

My research puts them as a new line in 2003.  That big claw is the PXT (Power extractor) which in my opionion is why mine can eat anything I load with.  Does it have an intergral feed ramp on the barrel?  Mines stamped from the Ft. Lauderdale facility, I don't know when it opened..I'm sure MB knows the history or maybe Frank...

I think they're all made in Canada. Ft. Lauderdale is just the U.S. headquarters. For some reason Scarborough, Ontario is sticking in my mind. I think that's where they make them.

Para is moving out of Canada, manufacturing has been in Fl. for a year or so now and the offices are in the process of moving, if not done already.

Good! I like buying American, and now I have an excuse to trade all 3 in!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. I just checked and Para-Ordnance's manufacturing and mailing address is
Para-Ordnance Mfg., Inc.
980 Tapscott Road,
Toronto, ON M1X 1C3
Canada

The same exact address WAS
980 Tapscott Rd.
SCARBOROUGH, ON M1X 1C3, but it became part of Toronto.

The same thing happened to Mag-Na-Port. They were in Mt. Clemens, MI, then they were in Harrison Township, MI but didn't move. Some people accidentally went to Harrison, MI, 182 miles NW of Harrison Township instead. A 5.5 hour round-trip. Oops!

Para USA's mailing address is
1919 N.E. 45th Street,
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
33308-5136

An update:
The pistol has a ramped barrel, so I believe it is about 5 years old based on what everyone is posting. I got the tac-rail off but the epoxy is still on the dust cover. Oh well, it's a little ugly but it goes inside my Fobus 1911 holster and it shoots great!

Thanks to all for the help....And I have to say you all are just enablers......  ;) You have talked me right into indulging my habit of buying guns.....I know where to go when I want to be talked into buying a gun now.....  ;D

Someone posted 10 reasons why a gun is better than a woman. Can someone post that one here or send it to me? No, I'm not a misogynist, I just think there is some kernels of truth in it......  ;)

Try fingernail polish remover, it's just scented acetone, it will remove super glue and probably clean off that epoxy as well.

If the acetone does not work, most epoxies will liquify  at 300 degrees, if you have a heat gun, heat it up and use a plastic scraper to remove it. Make sure there are no flammables around, even with a heat gun.

Good luck with your new para, I still have 3 and they are great.

I don't know if heat can remove it without destroying the finish. I think it's a type of paint. The easiest way may be to start filing it off VERY carefully until it almost gone and see if solvent will get the rest off. But most conventional solvents won't do anything to epoxy resin. It's usually removed with a bath of boiling acid or something else really nasty. There are a couple of epoxy solvents for sale that may work. You need to use them outdoors if you aren't in a labratory type setting with a fume hood. Some epoxy solvents only work if the resin hasn't hardened yet. There isn't any easy way to get it off that I know of. Good luck.
