What is worse than not having a Dick's anywhere near?  Having one that is "only" 140 miles away ... Let's see ... ammo available and on sale ... $1.81 gas and 280 mile round trip ... ammo on sale ... long drive ... ammo available ... expensive trip ... ammo on sale ...  :-\

Was at Dicks a few days ago. The 9mm was on sale but the shelf was empty. Nice sale.
I got the blues as my companion.

In 9mm it is the same - same. I shoot both and can't tell the difference. I find that for most target uses the thing to do is buy the American ammo that is on sale.
Our range bars Wolf ammo. I have tried Wolf -- but I will stick to UMC, WWB and Blazer for practice. I have tried S&B in other calibers and found it to be good as well. It is just that the only place I have to buy S&B is Cabela's which is a two hour drive -- not cost effective -- and S&B is usually more expensive than the American stuff.

My first choice in new is usually UMC yellow box.  It has never failed me, and is usually the cheapest. The cases are reloadable.

I have nothing against white box Winchester (used to shoot it a lot as well), but UMC has beat it in availability and price for a few years.

I also buy quite a bit of MagTech for all the same reasons.  MidwayUSA usually has a very good selection of MagTech (until recently), and I can get it shipped ahead of me where ever I'm headed.

That's a great price on 9mm and .223.  The best I can do @ WW is $196/1000 for 9 and $520/1000 for .223

Richard

PS:  WWB is even more!

I have been trying to get some UMC for 2 weeks and the Dick's I go to here in Garland Texas never has any. The manager told me they get trucks in on M-W-F but have not gotten any ammo. I did pick up some Monarch 9mm at Academy last week for $7.99 a box.

Check out the CMP also. They are getting in 223 ammo periodically. I thought that the following was pretty good. From what I saw on the online ammo sites this was less then them. Its the slightly heavier match round (62gr) from Remington.

4C223R62       1       Remington .223 Rem. Ammunition     $130.00
                       200 rd/cs

They currently have various Black Hills, Federal and Winchester 223 ammo in stock (besides 22lr, 30-06 and 30m1).

As for Dicks don't forget to get their SCORECARD. When you spend 300 bucks you get back 10 bucks for next purchase. So if buying a lot of ammo you might want to break up a purchase into several buys. And if you buy a the case, you get a discount.

Finally, Remington has some rebates on ammo going on. You can check out their coupons at:

Every little bit helps !
