I got a kick from the movie "Titanic" where the bad guy was carrying a Colt Model of 1911, Nickel Plated, a real beauty....  A pistol that, as of the sinking of Titanic on April 14, 1912, was not commercially available to the public yet...

Almost as good as the never empty 1911 in most Steven Segal movies....the bottomless magazine.....

I have a Colt Model 1911, that is a low serial number, purchased new in 1911 and is a commercial model.  It has been in my family since purchased, and carried by soldiers as a personal arm.  So yes, it is plausible.  It does bite my hand bad... :)

Titanic - greatly overrated movie, like the English Patient. Best part (of Titanic) - other than the damn boat finally sinking - was Kate Winslet naked. She needed to be moving around, but it was good as is.

That would be the movie Joe Kidd.

Could you imagine Titanic and the English Patient being sold as a 2 DVD set? Could be the ultimate cure for insomnia.

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

Best part of Titanic was the first 5 or 10 minutes with the actual footage of the wreck.

Joe Kidd ? That was Eastwood then ?

Yep. Eastwood played Joe Kidd, the drunk tracker/hunter. I spent a month in ICU and that damned movie came on 17 times on AMC.
The guy with the Broomhandle Mauser was Lamar, one of Robert Duvall's character's cronies.
There was also a takedown-style hunting rifle that was used but I don't know what type of rifle it was. Anyone?

The broomhandle Mauser was built in 1896, so it actually was around in the late 19th century, just like the 1894 Winchester rifle, but I'm not sure how many cowboys used either one.
