I have to disagree, whatever David Spades political leanings may be, (I have no idea ) these actions are in line with the conduct of our forefathers. If your town needed a school teacher then every one pitched in some money to hire one, if you needed a bridge the folks of the town made appropriate donations of material, money, or labor.
In that tradition Mr. Spade saw a need in his community and instead of waiting for "the Govt" to do something he stepped up and contributed a resource he had available.
Whether he agrees with us on the gun rights issue or not we would be better off if more people acted in this manner. If you see a need in your community, and you have the appropriate resources, don't stand around saying, "Gee, someone should take care of that." Act.

Don't get me wrong, I think it grate that the bloke has pulled his finger out and done something about it instead of being all talk and having a cry like the rest of them

all i was saying is it is a shame that the "officials" let it get to a point like that where someone out side  of the Department / Gubbermint had to stand up and do that

Thumbs up to him

Also very well said Tom! Just because someone doesn't agree with me on everything, doesn't mean that he or she is a bad person. Hell, I don't even agree with me all the time!  ;) Why should anyone else be in 100% agreement with anyone else? Good can come from many different people in many different ways. We just need to be positive, polite and strong in our beliefs.

That's a distinct possibility. I posted this story cause I thought at least a celeb was helping the cops, not obstructing them. I don't know if the Phoenix PD respects private gun owners or thinks they're part of the problem. Not all cops are pro-2A, with the exception of the guns they need for their work. Look at the New Orleans PD during Katrina. Also, if the cops needed the rifles so bad they made their officers pay for them, why didn't go to the city council to expand their operating budget or find some other form of revenue generation to pay for the weapons. Maybe the citizens don't want the police to have the rifles for whatever reason.

THe problem is that city council representatives are politicians, and may either not like the PD or honestly not have the funds available to give the cops (or any other city department) everything they request.

Here in my little town a couple of years ago the city council turned down the PD's request for funds for the purchase of Tasers.  As a result the cops went to the local business community and raised, through donations, the $7000-$8000 needed to outfit every officer with these less-lethal devices.  I applaud the business people who contributed (as I do David Spade) for their community spirit.  It's called "giving back" to the community.

In case you attended the public meeting here where they introduced them to the public, I was the sick bastard with tears of laughter streaming down his face everytime somebody got tazed in the video presentation!!  ;D

Ahh I was not sure how it worked over there and I did not know that the City Council runs and funds the PD's

over here it is the State Government that does that

Exactly. Here the local PD did the same thing to raise money to add a K-9 officer and training here. Yes I did help out, and so did a LOT of the business' in town.

Until they come up against people armed with something bigger than a pistol. Remember the Hollywood bank shootout?
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. yeah... a complete lack of training had nothing to do with that...

Buck shot could have stoped them cold, if they were trained to use it correctly against people with body armor.  ( they did not have slugs at that time)

All that did was show the lack of training the LEOs in the greater LA area.    Its also the the reason LEAs use for need ARs... complete crap.

Two good things did come out of that shoot out.

1 they got rid of the 9 mm

2 they got slugs for thier shot guns.

Unless you are the beat cop.  I'm taking on work as armored car security. Technically, I don't need a vest. But I do need a CDL. I'm getting the vest first. Oh, and since I technically don't need a sidearm or the shotty should I rely on the criminals/terrorists being altruistic and not killing me or my partner?   Despite what the left says, we are at war. Here. Now.

Cops need the proper equipment, and an AR is a lot more pinpoint than a shotgun.

This is not the 1950s anymore.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

do you want the average beat cop taking a shot where you, your wife or your children are in the line of fire?

I know I don't want the average beat cop taking that shot.   There was a recent police shooting here, 3 sheriffs fired 38 rounds at distances of 3-7 yards.  The supect was hit twice, his left ankle and hits right hand.

but hey its yours and your familys life... let them make that shot.
