Range trip this morning...
« on: January 11, 2009, 05:38:55 PM »
So after going to the range this morning to try out some of my 45 loads.  After about 10 mins of shooting, another guy showed up and took up a stall 3 down from me( 15 ish feet).   no big deal... yeah right.

So every thing is going fine then all there is a very loud bang and a warm blast( you know the find where some ones gun just blew up), it was so  strong I flinched off a shot.  " are you alright guy?"  " yeah, just fine"

"what was that?"  " just a TC encore, in 338 lupa"

I had to unload, make safe and watch... all I have to say is thats one of guns where you wonder who is hurt more, the shooter or the deer.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

That had to be quire a boom out of that little barrel. During the week, I was at the local indoor range and the guy in the booth next to me was shooting an Encore in .223. I know that .223 isn't that big a round, but my proximity to that rifle round coming out of that short barrel, who's muzzle was nearly lateral to my position, I felt that it was nearly bone-shaking. Being indoors didn't help either. I made use of this by practicing shooting with the extra stress of not knowing when these canon blasts would be going off. The air vents were blowing my target around too, so I got a little more practice with moving targets. I'm off track, but I'm saying that that must have been a hell of a blast coming out of that little gun pretty close to you.

I thought my old supervisor was nuts with his Encore 14 inch .308 . Last year I was at the indoor range and the young guy who runs it touched off a 454 2inch barrel Taurus tracker in the next lane, I almost crapped myself  ;D

I need to come and visit you guys.  I can't find an indoor range that will let me shoot my 500.

A .454 made me jump out of my shoes one time. I had to just sit back and wait for the guy to reload before I could try to continue to shoot.

There's at least one, the Pfeifer-Zeliska. If 600 Nitro Express is too much for you they make a .458 Winchester Magnum.  :)

Our range has one for rental even. For rifle calibers, you have to get a rifle stamp on your membership card. They've had a few shots through the ceiling and this is a busy part of town.
