Colorado Man Defends His Family
« on: January 28, 2009, 02:19:20 PM »
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,484267,00.html

Glad to see that the system there works, but even Fox News talks as though he got off easy,

"A Colorado Springs resident will not be charged for fatally shooting an intruder who tried to break into a home that he apparently thought was his, prosecutors said Tuesday."

I've never heard of the "Make My Day" law, sounds like a crap load of sensationalism to me.  But it looks like this fellow did everything right.  It's an unfortunate event, but most of us would have done the same thing, and he did what had to be done.

The so called "make my day law" is properly referred to as "Castle Doctrine. This type of derogatory slant would be considered "Hate speech if applied to any other group in America. And if you don't think it would have consequences I'm sure Don Imus would be willing to set you straight. No other group in America is required to get individual FBI permission to exercise a Constitutionally guaranteed Right and we will no longer sit back quietly and allow ourselves to be so slandered. We are here, we are staying and the rest of you better get use to the idea.

The Colorado Make My Day law was/is one of the first Castle Doctrine laws in the country, back in 1985.

Thank's for that Overload. Did YOU write to the media about  their derogatory slant on FBI approved law abiding citizens ?

It's sad, but expected, that the media would describe this situation in such a way to make it sound like every gun owner's day would be made if you got the opportunity to shoot another person.

Its terrible that they take this life altering event so lightly, an event like this could destroy families, the victim's and criminal attacker's and forever impact the victims who have to defend themselves.  Even though you can tell yourself, with no reservations, that you were %100 justified in your actions, you've still killed a man.  And I know that that's not something I'd go round telling with pride, like the news makes it out to be like.

With Kennedy out yelling and pounding on the door, I can understand why Parsons would be in fear of his life. I feel bad that he had to shoot someone though. I pray that I never find my family in that situation. The difference between being a young single guy that primarily only has to worry about his own safety and being a dad with children in different parts of the house is incredible. My level of being territorial increased exponentially. I check noises at night all the time now days.

It's an interesting note that the DA specifically cited that the gun was a revolver. If it had been an auto-pistol, would Parsons have been demonized more?
