In Denver on May 7th and 8th.
« on: February 03, 2009, 11:00:09 AM »
My wife and I will be in Denver in May and I am in need some ideas for something for me to do while she is at her conferences on the 7th and 8th.  Any ideas for daytime activities or someplace I should go or do?  This will be my first time to Denver but not Colorado.

The factory tour at the Coors brewery is interesting whether you drink or not.  Maybe a half hour west of Denver in Golden.

Most of the little towns around Denver have cowboy shops and the like.  Heck, in May you can probably still ski in the higher elevations.

I spent most of my time at Rocky Flats, a government bomb site NE of Denver but was able to stay busy on the weekends just driving around finding things to do on my own.

The big sporting goods stores, Bass Pro Shops,Sportsmens Warehouse,GanderMountain might pass some time. The Rockies might even have a day game, haven't checked.

GanderMt. has a archery indoor range, bring your bow. ;D

Thanks for the ideas.  I'll check into them.  Anyone ever do any hiking in the area?

Tour the Capital.  You can even make reservations to go up to the dome.  I've heard they're allowing you to go outside once up there.  There's also a few brewpubs and a micro distillery you can tour.  Shop or walk LoDo, the 16th st Mall, and Cherry Creek Mall.  Shoot some guns at the Firing Line.  Rocky Mountain National Park.  Mount Evans. Garden of the Gods.  Pikes Peak.  Air Force Academy.  Gamble in Central City/Blackhawk.

Stay out of LoDo late in the afternoon into the night - Hispanic gangs are very prevalent in the area and the crime goes way up after dark. Not that they ever talk about that, would limit the tourists.

I used to know some DynCorp people who went over there.

Don't let that scare ya from LoDo, myself I stay out of Denver alltogether because I can't stand Denver ever since they built the crap out of Colo. & revitalized LoDo yrs ago but I do visit old friends there every so often. Ol'mayor John Chickenpooper stepped up the amount of PD in the area because of the last couple of gang related bar shootouts, it's not good for his cities image & scares tourists & the yuppies/elite snobs away. About the only problem ya might come across on the 16th street mall is the mall rats (the homeless/runaway kids)
If ya want an escort on the 8th let me know :)
