what do you think of next gen weapons?

So I have been looking at some of these new next gen assault rifles and how many of them haven't made it as a replacement for what they are supposed to replace like how the m8 was supposed to become the army's next gen standard rifle and it was cancelled but they are some that look promising as well like the mp7a1 and the trevor assault rifle but what do you all think of all these next gen weapons the military keeps thinking up?

Look at Rugers SR9 and LCP, first year of production both were recalled. Why, because they are new and the bugs have not all been found yet, let alone worked out.
My recommendation is stick with proven technology, AR's (I would go the gas piston route though) and AK's have been doing the job longer than some forum members have been alive.

Tom I'm with you, take the current AR's and retrofit with gas piston, done.  Looking at the last forty years leads me to believe there won't be any huge swap of inventory, we'll just continue the evolution of the AR.  From M15 in the 50's to M4 now.  There's more than enough current and reliable weapons platforms to choose from, perhaps the next big step for the military with be looking at more effective calibers for the new types of combat conditions.

How hard and pricey is it to covert an AR to the gas piston system

 I've seen the uppers listed at $1500 but I'm sure they will come down as demand increases.

I think there will be a new caliber to replace 5.56mm AND 7.62mm so there's only one caliber in rifles and light/medium machineguns. I think these should be the next thing adopted instead of another gun of the cutrrent calibers.

I am assuming the "Trevor" you are talking about is the Tavor. The likelihood of the US Army switching to anything is very low, now that the military leadership knows that funding is likely to decrease significantly in the coming years. The Tavor works as it should, but I seriously doubt that the US will ever adopt a bullpup design. The US military finally adopting/allowing the use of optics on infantry rifles has really helped eliminate any shortcomings that the AR had in the  real world.

What I have noticed is that after a shift to bull-pup design in the 70's and 80's most new developed military rifles are of conventional design, like the FN SCAR, the H&K G36 and 416 and 417 and the new Bushmaster ACR.
