60 Minutes Story on the Mexican drug war
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:28:31 PM »
Well it's on!

Tonight's 60 Minutes story on the Mexican drug war contained footage of select-fire rifles and grenades. Guess where they said they came from? If you answered the United States, you would be correct.

We now have the setup story. Next should be more stories that reinforce the same theme: guns from the U.S. are fueling the Mexican drug war. And the remedy is another PIF ban.

Here's the link to the episode in case you didn't see it:

And here's the e-mail address to contact 60 Minutes to voice your opinion:

Yup I watched the same tonite. Anderson Cooper was talking about them coming from the US, when on the table was what looked like a belt fed M249 and ARs with grenade launchers and rounds (fast forward to 5:08 in the link FullAuto provided). DUH !

E mail I sent.

Hate to tell you this, since you seem to have your liberal heart set on another useless "assault weapon ban". The weapons you displayed were bought in the US alright, but they were NOT purchased by US civilians, they were bought by the Mexican Govt. and issued to some of the 17,000+ security personnel who have deserted to the cartels for higher pay.
Do some research, check the serial numbers.

Oh one more thing. Did anyone catch the Mexican official refer to the Barret .50 cal as a sniper rifle? I know it can and has been used in that role in the military and law enforcement, but the label was very interesting to me nonetheless. To me it serves to link in one's mind the only reason anyone would want to own one of those rifles is to be a "sniper".......At least they didn't get into the claim about how it can take down an airliner, which 60 Minutes did a story on a few years ago. It's kind of like how the media started throwing around the terms of "cop-killer bullets" and "assault weapon".

They didn't want their idiot audience thinking it was some sort of Birdzooka that shot out geese after that plane in the river last month.

"We're from 60 minutes and we're here to help you"
After watching the show I was all set to get down to the local dealer, hoping they would have some of those M16/M203 combos left on the rack before they all headed to mexico.   I must have also missed the 40mm grenade sale the last few times I was at Wally World; guess they all went south too.
