New Ruger Mini 14 Tactical
« on: March 19, 2009, 09:31:48 PM »
This is the coolest Mini 14 I have seen. I have always wanted a mini 14 but I think I have got to get this one.

w/ the retooling of the production line, I think the only problem left with them is the $$$$$ magazines.

I like the stock on the other tactical version better, but would like mounting rails in it. I didn't see any in the catalog picture.

Michael,
Keep us posted on the results of shooting this at gunsite.  I like the 16.1 barreled one with the flash hider and synthetic stock.

I had a mini once back in the day '90 or so, mediocre but ok accuracy  4"-6" at 100 yards. I got rid of it over the mag issue when mine were stolen and couldn't find high caps to replace them. I thought about getting a new one last month for about 10 seconds and then said no after seeing the price tag of $900 msrp, then no became hell no. I'm not buying any tactical carbine that doesn't use widely available mags, AR, AK or FN FAL again. The mini was nice when it was cheap, but given that I can buy a new bushmaster at gander for $200 dollars more I wouldn't even look at it. I suggest you look at keltecs new su-16c. It takes AR mags and according to to a review at www.gunblast.com (with ok video for once) it will pull 1 moa at one hundred yards with factory ammo. They're only going for $770. I haven't looked at one yet but its on my to do list this week.

All the above mentioned rifles I'm sure are fine guns but the mini 14 calls to me. It is just one of those rifles I have always wanted, I think it was from watching the A Team when I was a kid. I met a gentleman at the range a couple of weeks ago with the NRA mini and he was shooting 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards and that is plenty accurate for me. He also had an AR (didn't catch the brand)with a 16 inch barrel he was having loads of trouble with. It kept jamming on him and he finally went home disgusted. The mini ran flawlessly. I know they are not tack drivers but neither are box stock AR's. I know with enough parts the AR will shoot rings around a mini 14 in accuracy but it is hard to beat the dependability of a mini 14. That is just my opinion I know some will disagree but that is why they build so many different firearms so we can all have one we like.
