About five years ago I had the "pleasure" of driving through the east side downtown. I thought that stuff was just in movies! People wrapped in newspaper sleeping in the gutter (in the rain...), cars on fire IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET!, Guys stripping and chopping up bran new cadillacs in parking lots, nobody even stopped for the lights they just slow down look around and keep moving.
Downtown fell apart a LONG time ago when the big three were forced out by union labor costs. They moved to Kentuky, SC, all up and down I75 to get away from the union but it slowly followed them... Result. The union spread like a virus. End result.
Today's economy! Not an opinion. Fact. The downtown Detroit kind of livelyhood will be coming to a neighborhood near you soon if it hasent yet. Just do what you can to prepare.
