USAF Sniper
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:50:24 PM »
Did a search and did not see it posted previously.
Even though it is an older story I thought it was worth sharing since the Air force don't get a lot of attention. I got this in an email but it had the wrong background info, so I dug a little here's the scoop and a cool photo. As a side note, the base this young lady is stationed at is about 40 miles away from me here in south Georgia.
I thought it was another fine example of the type of folks we have in our Armed Forces.

9th Air Force
823d Security Forces Squadron
Moody AFB, GA

Senior Airman Polly-Jan Bobseine is a Security Forces Journeyman assigned to the 823d Security Forces Squadron as a Fire Team Member, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. She is 21 years old.
Airman Bobseine was born in Chadwick Bay, New York, on 21 October 1984. She was home schooled and graduated in June 2000. She competed in state and regional High-Power Rifle shooting, achieved New York State’s 2000 Junior Trap Champion title, taught skiing, snowboarding, and lettered in Swimming.
After graduating high school, Airman Bobseine moved to Wyoming where she was employed as a horse wrangler until relocating to Tennessee to train horses professionally before enlisting in the United States Air Force, leaving in March 2003 for Lackland Air Force Base, Texas for basic training.
Upon graduation, she volunteered for a special duty assignment to the 823d Security Forces Squadron, Moody AFB, Georgia, arriving in August 2003. Since serving in the unit, Airman Bobseine has completed Army Airborne Training, Air Force Physical Fitness Leadership School, and Army Combat Lifesaver Training.
Airman Bobseine was recently selected as the 2005 Air Combat Command Outstanding Flight Level Airman of the Year. She is an active member of the National Cancer Research Organization and volunteer children’s swimming instructor.
Airman Bobseine’s military awards include the Air Force Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, Meritorious Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Rifle and Pistol.)
She is currently pursuing her private pilot license and enrolled in Park University, working towards an Associates degree in Criminal Justice.

And some neandrathalls still think women don't belong in the military, much less in combat. Would you want to be on the wrong side of her .308? Hard core, high speed, low drag and I hope she gets her her stripes by the time CSAR pulls its head out of its antiquated ass and starts letting girls in the club house because she sounds like not only a natural but someone who wants to be there.
Fightingquaker13 remembering a lot of outstanding female cadets who weren't allowed to go to jump school because our CO didn't want to "waste" the slots on people who couldn't go infantry

Great find Peg...

With all the bad we see and read about are youth, it's a comfort to see we still have young people like Ms.Bobseine in our Armed Forces!!!

Got to love those Air Force Women. I am still friends with other Security Police that I was stationed with. Most were excellent marksmen and could outshoot their male counterparts.

We didn't have any defensive team members like her on my missions.   Sniping is wholly different game when you're sitting on a large airplane in the middle of a not-so-friendly airfield waiting for your cargo to show up.  Not a lot of "stealth" involved.  Everyone knows where you are.  Good eyesight and steel nerves are more important.

The most famous female sniper has got to be Dr. Ruth.

Will work for ammo

The Russians made large use of female snipers in WWII....to great effect.
