It sucks that homocidal maniacs can 'act' like humans and follow the rules .... for awhile.  And then go crazy and make every else who is FOLLOWING THE RULES look like we're the bad guys.

They all were in gun free zones.....

Legal common concealed carry would have put the damper on most of those.

Lets just say for the sake of argument, every one can CCW, how many people  would actually carry a gun?  How many of those would actually get training(I'm not talk a basic pistol corse)

The sad reality is, a very small number of people in theis country actually carry a gun, very few of those have had any type of training( other then state mandated)   Most LEOs out there only have very basic firearms training, many only fire thier gun for qualifiying.

Here in CA at the age of 15 I  passed the CCW shooting test, blindfolded.

Doesn't matter how many actually carry.  In a state like NY or NJ, where the mopes and dopes can be pretty confident they have no chance of being around a CW they act with impunity. We used to call it 'wilding'. Here in my county in PA, where the chance of meeting a person w/ CCW is roughly 16%, the imported criminals from NY and NJ are finally starting to get the message.  It took a few sheepdogs shooting some of the miscreants with others held at gunpoint for the police to arrive but even these dim bulbs are wising up. Doesn't hurt that our judges aren't lenient on them either. Our major problems appear to be gang related, and unfortunately the gang mentality assures more defensive shootings to come.

As to the NY shooter having permits, it's the media building a straw man. I think it's more telling that the NY State continues to enforce the Sullivan  Act, written by a crooked politician to protect his criminal buddies from being shot by the gun owning immigrants they were shaking down in NYC.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

the thing that bothers me about living in ny is that I can not carry in nycity legally but anyone with a nycity ccw can carry  in upstate counties. Now why is it they have more rights than I do?

The New York State issued permits, as you know, are essentially county permits not State permits per se.  As such, each county permit is recognized throughout the State and honored in all counties except the city and its 5 boroughs.  The permit issued in NYC is actually a New York State  permit that is recognized throughout the state, same as the other county permits, but extended out to cover the county of New York and its boroughs.  My NYC permit is issued by the 1st Precinct and is honored throughout the state, but I always carry both my county permit and NYC permit because the NYC permit limits you on the number of guns you can carry whereas the county permit does not.  Not fair, I agree...but there it is.

I don't, but many people out there think, "I have a gun, I can protect myself"   That simply is not ture.

Its not the tool, its the user.  I can let any one here use all my tools, have access to my shop,  What are the chances that they can produce they same quality of work I can?

While having access to the right tools, is very helpful, Training, mind set and skill set are by far more important.
