ND - no limit, based solely on what the store has in stock and how much you have to spend. With a CCW you can walk out the door without waiting for the phone call too. Just fill out and sign the yellow form, let the store folks record the data, and off you go.

What's up with that phil? I've always wondered? I mean when it comes to a fronteir mindset, rugged individualism, general toughness and self reliance and healthy distrust of authority, you lot seem to have us beat hands down. I don't think even the most nationalist members of this board would argue when I say that y'all have a reputation (your avatar aside) from being some of the toughest bastards on the planet. Yet even in California and the American Northeast, gun control laws like yours wouldn't pass the giggle test. Hell, even Obama, one of the most liberal presidents in living memory with astronomical approval ratings and comfortable majorities in both houses knows better than to try (in the short term anyway) to try to ban AK-47s for God's sakes. What happened that Port Author caused everyone down there to "go all wobbly"? It just seems incongruent with the culture. Just curious.

John Howard was the issue there and had all the states bent over with it,   
he is on record about hating guns,  and when Port Author happened that was all he needed.

the media took his side  and it was all over and done with real quick  the other issue is you had people that just shot shot gun  or just bolt actions  saying.  well it dose not affect me so what's the issue.   or groups that are meant to represent ALL shooters  just concentrating on there shooting sports, not everyone.  in the end we all lost out

the new laws only took 2 weeks to happen after the incident.   


unfortunately  over here everything seems to be a privilege not a right    as they seem to keep on reminding us   just like driving a car.

In Colorado, no limit on purchases, must wait for the background check, can take 15 mins. or hours depending, and then you are out the door with your firearm/s.

Here in the great state of Texas all you do is show your I.D. and have the dealer verify the background check form over the phone and your good to go with as many guns as you care to pay for.

In Illinois no limit on puschases, must have state FOID card(good for 10 years). 3 day wait for handguns, 1 day for long guns. And of course the fed. insta-check.

When in NC, The non CCW holder could acquire a "Purchase Permit" from the Sheriff's office they resided in. Required 2 trips.

First trip to pay and get form, it too required "personal references" that THEY DID call. Is Tom a meth dealer? does he have "anger issues", is he a loon? That type of deal.....Than go back to LEO's office and pick them up.

Than (depending on county), the Sheriff will issue 1 to 5 per month "purchase permits". Pretty much a signed notarized form stating I Sheriff Hewitt have conducted yada yada yada, and Tom is not a meth freak, angry, homicidal, gun loon.

The Permits are good for 1 or 2 years, Once you have them, than you can go to the show, shop, and get as many as the permits you have in hand. 1 permit per firearm. But if you have 5 permits you can get 5.

The CCW lets you get all you can afford, that day, and walk out with it.

No limits on the number uou can purchase in Michigan but you basically need a license to purchase a handgun issued by the local police authority good for 10 days.  If you have a CPL (concealed pistol license) that is your permit to purchase.  You still need to fill out forms with a CPL, but you don't have to go to the the police station first to get the purchase permit and pass a very basic quiz.  FFL holders must obtain this license to purchase also when they obtain a handgun from an individual or other dealer.  If the FFL holder obtained from a wholesaler or manufacturer this does not apply.  If you have a CPL, then after purchase you must send in the forms to the police, who forward to the state police.  The law recently changed on this, so I don't know if a non CPL holder who got a purchase permit has to take the gun to the police department with their paper work or not.  Before the law changed everyone that purchased a handgun had to return to the purchase permitting police department with the gun to have a "safety inspection."  The "safety inspection" was defacto registration although they didn't call it that.  If you didn't have it inspected you could be charged with possesion of an unregistered handgun and part of the penalty was forfieture.  With the law change the "safety inspection" officially changed to registration.   
Unlike federal law there is a 26 inch minimum overall length and minimum barrel length requirements, Michigan considers long guns under 30 inches in length a handgun and must be registered.  My older Ruger Mini14 with wood and steel folding stock is registered as a handgun.  I'm not sure on this, but I think that nonresidents cannot posses in Michigan a handgun unless it is registered in their resident state or if they have a CPL issued from a resipricol CPL agreement state.  So if your coming to Michigan be careful about handguns and long guns with collapsible and folding stocks if they are less than 30 inches.  You may be legal by federal and home state laws, but not Michigan.  That part of the law is hard to find as it is an attorney general opion at the end of the firearms law book and not with the other parts about legal size.
Some of the non resident law stuff changed recently also and I'm not real up to snuff on it as it doesn't apply to me.
Michigan became a shall issue state about 8-10 years ago instead of the good ole boy may issue if you have money or know some one.  Michigan has actually been getting a little better in the last few years, there are still some GFW laws.  No SBR or AOW.
