Looking for some Carbine training in the NW
« on: September 01, 2009, 01:29:59 PM »
I suppose that this is a mild rant as well.  I have been looking to take some carbine training to improve my skills. While reading books and watching the great moves on video is good, having someone run you through it gets it done faster, and usually better.   I was also hoping to keep it somewhat local to keep the costs down.  I have tried several places that are advertising here in Montana and Idaho, but all of them are catering to military or LE only.  A couple will take mere citizens like me, but require that you have a CCW and show proof.  I find this interesting since I don't see those requirements for any of the defensive pistol courses (actually some do on the upper pistol courses).  One I found stated that they required a signed letter from your local LEO stating that you were a good "citizen".  Arrrgh!!

So, am I just going to have to bite the bullet and go to see Clint, Erik, Rob, or some other place?  Going to TR would be the next closest, although there might be one in Seattle I think.  Maybe FBMG in Utah??  Ideas?

Check the Appleseed website, they will have a good trainer most places.

Thanks ratcatcher, that was one that I had not seen yet.  I have not found a list of prerequisites needed for the course yet.

2How, I know all about the AS stuff.  Thanks for the plug though.. :)  I am quite involved here in MT and have been for some time.  That being said, the training is more geared towards long distance shooting and I am looking more for how to really run and gun my AR's and shooting in those close in ranges.

Bidah,

Come on down.  Tulsa is not that far away.  I just finished a Tactical Rifle 230 course last weekend.  The next one in Nov. 13-15.  Weather in Tulsa should be perfect that time of year.

TR230 does have some longer range training time, but the main focus is learning how to run the rifle up close at realistic defense distances.

I'd love to see another forum member make it out to the course.

If travelling is really difficult, put together a group of about 10 guys and I'll come to you.

Sure Erik, you try to find 10 people in Montana, let alone 10 GUYS.. :)  Anybody know how far Tulsa is from Denver?  I am just trying to figure out travel times.  Coming down to meet you in person would be great.

It would have to be either early spring or late fall or winter.  The heat and humidity would kill me.  I am still not sure how I survived the sand box.
