MSRP $625.00 !

The SR556 was $2200 when it came out, its $1600 now, this'll go down to $400 and be a good buy.

Wonder what the street price will end up being.

Given they cannibalized 2 existing products already being manufactured, one would think that beating the S&W M&P-22 price point would have been market target numero uno and get the rifle on the street under $500. Oh, well, they never called to ask me . . .  :'(

Yep! That'd be a pretty cool 10-22 at $400. It looks like the innards are still 10-22 and they are pretty reliable. When I was a kid, we had a break-in and the guys took some of my dad's guns. In the 80's, the insurance company called to say that a 10-22 had been recovered in some guy's trunk in East LA. My dad bought it back from them and found it hadn't been taken very good care of. He cleaned it up and it is still a workhorse that my brother shoots.

The thing about this one for cheap training with an AR15, is the controls are different. Some of the more simple minded of us would get confused with mag changes and releasing the safety. It DOES look cool, and looks fun to shoot, but I probably won't buy one. But then again there was a time I thought I'd never buy an AR 15, too, and here I have 1 & 1/2 (Have to save up for the upper...) AR15's. (One in my lap as I type.)

With S&W's new AR22 at $500 I think this is a little spendy, and I would prefer it to be a little closer to an AR.  However, I think that for the general plinker or someone that does not shoot AR's this is a great gun.  The base being a 10/22 means that the aftermarket is already for it with low price items for both upgrades and needs.

I'm not saying that will will never buy one, but for right now I'll look to a traditional 10/22 plinker, a little more precise 10/22, and an actual AR in .22.

However, I congratulate Ruger on adapting an excellent proven system to a product for the general public and new shooter market.

By the way, is that our very own Marshal in a ball cap at the beginning of the video?
