Glock 9mm mag carrier for the pocket
« on: October 01, 2009, 12:26:08 AM »
I am about to start carrying a Glock 26 as a concealed carry weapon as soon as my holster arrives.  I'd like to carry a spare magazine, probably in my weask side front pocket.  I'd like something to carry it in.  I have a Fobus single mag paddle carrier that I've considered cutting the paddle off of with a dremel tool and using, but thought I'd see what else is out there.  Obviously, I'd like something thin so it doesn't add a lot of thickness to the mag.  The main thing I'm looking for is to cover the top half of the mag and keep crap like pocket lint out of the mag in case I ever need it.

What do you guys suggest?

I have a nylon double mag pouches sewed into my three of my jackets on the weak side pocket. Another thing i did was cut off the flap on the pouch, it makes it very eazy to retrieve a full mag. It works for me so maybe this will help.

Not for your pocket, but I've found that the cheap cell phone holders from Walmart work well at carrying mags on my belt without being obvious.

Just looks like you have a cell phone.

You have to find the holder that fits your particular phone mags.

Like David I "Adapted". For my 1911 I use a nylon sheath for a folding knife on my belt on the weak side, it's a perfect fit and the velcro flap keeps the mag secure, free of trash, and easily accessible. For larger mags like the Glock I would try a "Leatherman" size sheath.

Take a look at the Desantis mag packer pocket magazine holster.

This is something I have been trying to figure out too for when I carry my 26... right now I still dont carry an extra mag.

You might want to try something like this:

I think what Tom has suggested might also be one of the best ways to go.

Eric, I have a holster like that for strong side IWB. I've found that carry that way, first, the set up is some what bulky and second , the mag rides below the level of my belt and is impossible to reach with the weak hand, even outside the belt it is an awkward reach for the weak hand.
As with most things, YMMV  ;D (might work better for WEAK side IWB )

I mostly carry a Gov. 1911, and two spare magazines ... why ... the gun is heavy and I do a John Wayne imitation if I don't balance it out  ;D

I carry my sure fire in my front weakside pocket, and the spare mags go in the weak hip pocket.  Keys, etc. go in strong side pocket or other handy place.  And, I do not use a pouch for mags or light.

Strong side waistband - gun
Weakside front pocket - light or mags
Weakside hip pocket - mags if not in front

I know the hip pocket does not work for double stacks, but it is fine for single stacks as long as I move them before sitting on a hard bench.  Vehicles and soft furniture it is a non-issue.  I've been told that the hip pocket is not a handy place, but I prefer to it over the front pocket for mag retreival.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.  Last night, I got out the cutting wheel for my dremel tool and cut the paddle off a Fobus single mag carrier and then sanded the edges smooth.  I tried it and the tabs on the side do a good job of catching the pocket so the carrier stays in the pocket as the mag comes out.  I'm going to go try it now with a loaded mag since my wife is sending me to Sam's Club.  We'll see how it works.  If it gives me problems, I'll try some of your suggestions.
