No, the reality is that a good chunk of the people in the US will have NO experience with guns, except what they see in the movies, watch on TV or hear about in the media. This is why they need to be educated that guns are not the problem in our society.
if you live in a large city(think LA, chicago, nyc... etc) chances are you will know some one that is a vic of "gun violance"
hell I live in a small city( just over a mil for the greater sacramento area), I've had a gun pulled on me twice. I've seen people shot in the face at arms lenght... If I had not had any good exps with guns before those times, I would not be a strech to think that guns are evil.
Another example, take my wife, almost ever single ER rotation she has some one comes in that has been shot.( low man on the poll so she gets lots of gravyard shifts) If it had not been for me, she would most likly still think guns are evil.
I don't know anyone that does not have a friend that has had a bad exp with guns.
