balloon boy parents 'face charges'
« on: October 17, 2009, 09:07:12 PM »
A sheriff in the US state of Colorado says the parents of a boy mistakenly believed to have been carried away by a helium balloon will face charges.
Sheriff Jim Alderden was speaking after interviewing the parents of Falcon Heene, aged six, for a second time.
The boy was feared to have been in a weather balloon which flew away on Thursday, but was later found at home.
Sheriff Alderden had earlier said that he did not think Richard and Mayumi Heene were behind a deliberate hoax.
He has not specified what charges will be brought, but the couple have not been arrested.
"We were looking at Class 3 misdemeanour, which hardly seems serious enough given the circumstances," Sheriff Alderden said.
A search warrant is being obtained for the couple's home in Fort Collins, and Sheriff Alderden raised the possibility of federal charges, saying that he was talking to the Federal Aviation Administration

For what? Did the parents beat on him? If so, charge away. Beyond that, I'm puzzeled. A kid hid, a balloon got away and an expensive S@R was conducted. That's a shame but you can hardly blame a six year old for being a six year old or his parents for being his parents. Hell he could have gotten the behind the wheel of the family car just as easily. Hell, I just spent the day being run ragged taking care of my two year old cousin. I love him dearly, but he is evil, designed purely for destruction. All kids are dedicated soldiers of entropy, parents can do so much. Stuff happens. Kids being kids falls under that category.
FQ13 who is once more delighted that he is childless, and reaffirmed in his belief that kids are like cats. I enjoy playing with other people's, but don't want to own one.

???  I know what entropy means in astrophysics but not in this case.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. The issue is whether the parents planned this as a deliberate hoax. Observation (and really, really atrocious acting) says they did.

My reading of the article and other reports I've heard is that it is a combination of the balloon getting loose, the possibility of the boy being on board, and the questions raised in the interviews concerning possible set up.  The sheriff is going for repayment for expenses for all levels of government involved, but without proof of crime (hoax) he can't go beyond the basic level of carelessly letting the balloon get away.

Entropy=equals the natural force of destruction, decay and dissolution. Eg. Thing fall apart. This is perhaps a bit extreme to apply to apply to a child. However, I have spent the last ten hours in the presence of a perpetually cheerful, hyper active 2 year old who seemed born to ask the question "what does this button do"? Expect to see him 14 years from now in the latest youtube "hold my beer and watch this" extravaganza.Honestly, the fact that my goddaughter had a second child after this hellion makes me doubt her sanity. Of course the fun part is that safely living two states away I was able to take revenge by expanding the lad's vocabulary a bit. ;D
FQ13 who is going straight to hell. However my cousin WILL be able to tell his dad tommorrow that Alabama are a bunch of pussies who will be crushed by UF ;D ;D ;D

Charging for rescue expenses has become common in Sea and Mountain Rescue.

To quote the 6 year old agent of entropy, "We did it for the show".  I could not say for sure whether or not it was contrived, but if you have seen any of the clips from the dad's appearance on Wife Swap the entire family needs to be fined for being publicity whores.

The dad called the news channel BEFORE calling 911...  Yeah, that's normal.  ::)

Hit them with the rescue costs, and if they don't pay immediately...  SERIOUS jail time.  >:(

Obama is wasting enough of our tax money.  We don't need this idiot's help.

Better yet.  Leave it up to God.  Get the whole family in a balloon and give the community guns.  Now as tempting as it might be you only get to shoot the balloon!  If they live, they get to work off the rescue cost.  If they don't, the community bought some real expensive ammo.
