They have TV commercials advertising them down here.

Here's a free phone.....vote Democrat at the next election.

Bastards.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

I suppose it makes sense for old folks under medicare "I've fallen and I can't get up", but honesly, is this even remotely necessary? If it is, mightn't a life alert be cheaper and less prone to abuse? I remember voting for an opportunity to buy into the federal employee health plan, with prices adjusted to income so everyone could afford to buy health insurance even if their employer didn't offer it. This would have cost money, yes, but would have probably paid for it self by lifting the health care costs from small business and keeping the uninsured from using the ER as their primary care giver. Yet no, that is not what is on offer. Freaking cell phones? Where was this in the brochure? Honestly, I am too old and too well educated to trust politicians, still a good idea, letting me buy the health care congress has on my own dime, gets transformed into this crap. WTF?
FQ13 who has had it with the Dems, the GOP and the Libertarians, they are all useless >:(

all you need is a cell phone to dail 911.  it does not have to be on a service, just has to be able to get a signal.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

They are probably intended for job hunting, or keeping in touch with the welfare office.
