I just place my order today for a Glock 20 SF. Also I found 2 zip-lock bags of .40 short & weak that have been in a storage drawer for several years now so by mid summer I'll more than likely be looking at a Glock 23. And I also have 3 hicap mags for 9mm for G-17 , will someone please stop me or find a 12 step program Glocks. ;D

450,000,000 rds. of .40 "Short &Weak" purchased by our gov't can't be a bad endorsement.... ::)
Enjoy the Dark Side.....

And when you get tired of that "clumsy and random blaster", you can turn to "a more elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

Says he who only has 3 Glocks at the moment and scored 498 in his last GSSF match. ;D
-
Renewed my GSSF membership this very week.
-
it has taken me 3 years, but I honestly think I'm shooting my G34 as well as I ever did my 1911s.....
FWIW... not a big fan of the multiple spring systems on the Gen4s...factory night sights on a G23 are a good option
the polymer hand blasters are a nice accessory to a black rifle, and Italian recoil driven shotgun

You won't be sorry, Conagher.
But revolvers are beautiful. Great to look at. I look at mine regularly. ;D ;D

Besides look at the bright side, you won't ever get attached to the ugly little bugger. ;D

What brand of sights on the Glock, Alf?

Who says gun owners don't celebrate diversity?

Tru-Glo I believe. It's the first thing I did to it. Glock front sight is so easy if you have the right socket wrench.
-
Glock is great!!! Has anyone seen the youtube video with Yeager talking about Glocks? This guy goes off about how good Glocks are. I thought I was a Glockoholic but I am pretty sure that when this guy dies, he will be reincarnated as a Glock. ;D
-
And Conagher 45 I am going to have to meet up with you sometime to shoot!

The sights on mine are Ameri-Glo (and came with a wrench)....but one of the rear pills is gone (After 5 yrs) but the front is still bright. Brownells has several brands that you can order just the rear, and I like the low profile look on yours.

That will be great. I have been shooting a lot of trap this year at Kosko, having been bitten by the clay target bug. Wife even bought me an 11-87 camo 20 ga. for X-Mas this year.

Your are very nice. Not usually drawn to inlaid/engraved models but your looks exceptional. And is other a 66 (or 66-1)?
-
4" Model 29-2

The Glock 20 came home today. It is not a Short Frame but I'll make do with this, price was too good to pass up.
-
It's a Glock! ;)
Nice picture with the Bowie.
-
The 6" is a 586. ;D

Now I am thinking about a Glock 23 gen4 just happen to have 2000 pieces of brass on hand. A local P.D. use our range and through them in the trash. Maybe at the end of the year I might be able to pick up one.

Sweet. I have both a 20 and 12 Remington 870. I suck at skeet but I am willing to try to pop some clays. Just joined a group from www.ingunowners.com that are in your neck of the woods Conagher 45.

The cool thing about a G23 is that you can get the Lone Wolf 9mm barrel for it and shoot both 40 and 9. Basically you turn it into a G19.
It's what I pack on overnight trips. I throw in 3 mags of 40 and the 9mm barrel w/ three mags of 9mm. That way I can shoot whatever's available. Only downside is you can't compete in GSSF matches with 3rd party barrels.
-
Just shot some rounds through the G-20 yesterday. ;D
10.2 grs of Blue Dot, 180 gr. XTP
Al, What do you shoot mostly in GSSF matches ? Will the G-23 be competive on most of the courses of fire ?
-
Indoor league is more for the fun. I've seen guys shoot a perfect score with a G19. In indoor there's no reward for higher power. But the course of fire isn't real fast (typically 10 shot in 15 seconds), so the extra recoil, over a 9mm, is not a huge disadvantage.
In outdoor there are some special categories for "heavy" (10mm and .45) and sub-compact. However for the basic competition you really want to be shooting 9mm with either a G17 in amateur, or a G34 in competitive divisions.
To answer your question, I shoot a G17 in indoor and outdoor, right now.
-
I love my Glocks (19, 26, and 20) and would hate to talk someone out of one. However, the reviews I've read about getting a .40sw coversion barrell for a 20 have been very positive. All you're supposed to have to change is the barrell. I've thought about doing it, but I don't have anything else in .40 and don't want to have another caliber to buy just for that.
Glad you like your Glock. Did you get your cookies? ;)
-
The advantage of shooting 9mm is the cheaper cost of componts, bullets are cheaper, brass is plenitful and the amount of powder is less. I guess I 'll be looking for a G-17 or G-34 next.
Lone Wolf does have 10mm to 40 S&W coversion barrels, I wonder if 40 S&W will feed out of my 10mm magazines?

Conagher45, you going to try to make it to the GSSF Match in Indy The end of June or first of July? I am going to try to make that one with my boys.

I saw that we had one in Indy this year. Maybe if I can get my hands on a buddy's G-17 for the weekend I might just show up. ;D
I am kind of leaning towards purchacing a G-34 for plinking and compition ,but what is the deal with a lot of people being sour on the Gen 4's ?
-
Conagher... double recoil spring system
-
Conagher... double recoil spring system
In theory wouldn't this make the firearm shoot softer or is it too much tension ?
-
I would hazard a guess that on the 9mm guns, especially the sub compact G26 , that it has to do with the dwell time of the of the slide when under recoil...the static closed and open spring pressures can be measured, but I don't have one to compare with the older single unit can only speculate that it has more tension.. I'm sure the project engineers did (probablythe same guy that responded to my suggestions that there was no need to add additional length to the beavertail for people with large hands, and that a dovetailed front sight was not necessary)......a lot of new shooters are not instructed how to lock their wrist, and any short slide guns , not exclusively Glocks, are more prone to jamming... there is a certain distance of slide travel required, and certain amount of frame resistance needed to make them operate reliably...sometime there is just not enough time to allow the round to be stripped from the magazine and chambered
FWIW... I use a non captured stainless guide rod and single ISMI spring rated a couple of pounds higher than factory, and let it take a set... I

Enjoy the Glock 20. I have had mine since 1996 and I still love it. I bought a Lone Wolf barrel so I can shoot lead and a stainless guide rod with a Wolf 22 lb spring so I don't have to chase brass so far. Last year I bought a Lone Wolf 40 S&W conversion barrel because I had thousands of pieces of 40 brass already. I run the 17 lb spring on the 40 loads. They are light loads anyway. I run those in the plate match and it works great. I'm loving the Lone Wolf barrels so much I'm adding the 6 inch and a long slide later this year. I never wanted a Glocj until I owned one and now its one of my favorites. I love my revolvers too but the Glock's just work and work well. Enjoy.

Ok guys,,, Just bought a Gen 1 Glock 17 today. This seems to be habit forming. When do I get my Cookies ? ;D
Will post some pic of it later.

I kind of have the bug to shoot the GSSF match in Indianapolis this year but I was wandering about hoe persnickity they are as far as slip on grips, slug plugs and I don't know if the guide rod in this gen 1 is stock , it is poly but it is not a captured type of rod. Any help would be appreicated...... Al Ping .

Conagher, your G17 might be eligible for some updated parts. If the serial number is in this range, it is:
AA through XG, inclusive
If so, the parts are:
Extractor
Spring-loaded bearing1
Firing pin safety and spring
Firing pin / striker
Trigger bar
You can find more info here...on the G17 and other models that may have a parts upgrade.
There are also pictures of each part showing the old and new parts, so you can check to see which you have installed.
You can install these parts yourself as there is no fitting required, but you might want a good source of instructions on how to disassemble a Glock. I use the Glock DVDs from AGi http://www.americangunsmith.com/app/products/view/2/Glock
but you might be able to find a YouTube Vid showing disassembly.
The DVD covers a lot more than disassembly, but unless you want to pay for the extra good information, try YouTube.
I called Glock and told them I would install the parts myself on my G17 and G23 and G21. I needed to send the G21 slide in for recutting of the extractor slot but other than that, they are all just drop in parts.
Take care.
-
Thanks ,,,, Just found out that Gen1 recoil spring and guide rods are not captured they are a two peice unit.
Still waiting for the cookies , I was promised good cookies here on the dark side.. ;D

Alf gave you some of the rules. You can also review them and the shooting courses on www.gssfonline.com. I will be there this year.

Ping did you make the GSSF in INDY? I couldn't get time off of work to go and with the stroms up here had power outages and trrees down in the drive. I hope it was successfuf and maybe next year they will have one in our area. Conagher.

Conagher... I think you misunderstood...KoolAid not cookies...if you shoot any USPSA, a plastic butt plug and aftermarket sights are a good option... I like a stainless uncaptured guide rod with ISMI spring...try to get the latest generation of magazines if possible... there are about 4 generations... both my 17 and 34 prefer 147 grain bullets... and if you hand load... well I use Precision Delta bullets and Winchester Super Field at about 880fps... Blade Tech DOH

Dude, Your butt plug choices are much more personal than we really want to know about.
Maybe you could sell one to Barney Frank.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
If you want to retain your dignity you might want to call it a mag well plug or something. ;D
Either that or find a better class of people to shoot with ;D
-
Tom, I'm so old I have a 3 digit Life USPSA number....I'm retired school teacher and don't have to be PC anymore... and my friends are still kidding me about switching from a 1911 in .45acp to a Glock in 9mm...I'm such an easy target...after a couple of colonoscopies, you don't have any dignity left anyway....

As well they should !
After the razzing I gave my Dad the first time he had one I'll give you a pass on that.
Call it a matter of conscience ;D
