Get all the rules right here.

http://www.gssfonline.com/glockrpt/2012_The_GLOCK_Report.pdf

Section 40, about page 10, covers what's stock and what's not.

Conagher, your G17 might be eligible for some updated parts.  If the serial number is in this range, it is:

 AA through XG, inclusive

If so, the parts are:

Extractor
Spring-loaded bearing1
Firing pin safety and spring
Firing pin / striker
Trigger bar

You can find more info here...on the G17 and other models that may have a parts upgrade.

There are also pictures of each part showing the old and new parts, so  you can check to see which you have installed.

You can install these parts yourself as there is no fitting required, but you might want a good source of  instructions on how to disassemble a Glock.    I use the Glock DVDs from AGi  http://www.americangunsmith.com/app/products/view/2/Glock
but you might be able to find a YouTube Vid showing disassembly.

The DVD covers a lot more than disassembly, but unless you want to pay for the extra good information, try YouTube.

I called Glock and told them I would install the parts myself on my G17 and G23 and G21.  I needed to send the G21 slide in for recutting of the extractor slot but other than that, they are all just drop in parts.

Take care.

Alf gave you some of the rules. You can also review them and the shooting courses on www.gssfonline.com. I will be there this year.

Conagher... I think you misunderstood...KoolAid not cookies...if you shoot any USPSA, a plastic butt plug and aftermarket sights are a good option... I like a stainless uncaptured guide rod with ISMI spring...try to get the latest generation of magazines if possible... there are about 4 generations... both my 17 and 34 prefer 147 grain bullets... and if you hand load... well I use Precision Delta bullets and Winchester Super Field at about 880fps... Blade Tech DOH

Dude, Your butt plug choices  are much more personal than we really want to know about.
Maybe you could sell one to Barney Frank.

If you want to retain your dignity you might want to call it a mag well plug or something.     ;D
Either that or find a better class of people to shoot with  ;D

Tom, I'm so old I have a 3 digit Life USPSA number....I'm retired school teacher and don't have to be PC anymore... and my friends are still kidding me about switching from a 1911 in .45acp to a Glock in 9mm...I'm such an easy target...after a couple of colonoscopies, you don't have any dignity left anyway....
