Title: Roza Sabina, WWII Sniper
Post by: fightingquaker13 on November 18, 2012, 01:29:32 PM
This is a great little video on a Russian female sniper from WWII. It doesn't get get much more hard core than this. Its worth a watch. And damned if it doesn't make me want to buy a Moisin, even if I am not right handed. ;D

I had a picture of Lyudmila Pavlichenko on the glass front of one of my storage cabinets... caption: Lyudmila Pavlichenko, Hero of the Soviet Union, and underneath the number 309....a few of my curious 9th graders asked what the 309 meant... most of my Bosnian kids knew exactly what the 309 meant....

Too bad they played for the wrong team!

Ummm....she was shooting Nazis who invaded her country.  Granted there weren't any good guys in that fight, but I'd say she was on the closest thing to the right team team there was under the circumstances. Stalin may have been an SOB, but at least he didn't invade Germany. Its like the Civil War. I don't have a lot of love for the Southern pols, but the vast majority of the soldiers fought to repel what they saw as an invasion. Same in Russia, it wasn't about communism, it was about killing Germans.

I know the history FQ!

As far as Soviets and Nazi's, they're both the wrong team and both wrong in their ideology!  I commend these women for defending their homeland much like our Minutemen but, fighting for the wrong ideology is still fighting for the wrong ideology!  The Soviet Propaganda machine is legendary in it's misinformation!

The Cold War was pretty much moved to the universities by the time you graduated HS!  I lived and served through that and still consider the Russian's my enemy.  YMMV...sorry if it doesn't jive with your understanding of the world!

Is that a dig at me Ken or an affirmation?

Maybe I'm getting too old to keep posting on this forum...   ???

Quite frankly, the talk here is getting pretty tedious anyways.  Maybe it's time I left...

And what the hell did I do? And why did I become the bad guy for pointing out the fact that the average Russian didn't give a damn about Stalin, but was just pissed about being invaded? Sorry if you felt like I was taking a shot Timothy, because I wasn't. Just saying that in in any given war, you have to accept that the folks defending their homes have a certain moral high ground. I mean most wars in history have been fought between bastard X and bastard Y and the only real real difference to the guys on the front was that guys who were defending their homes were that much more motivated. It was foul fighting vile on the Russian front as fr as Hitler and Stalin were concerned. Its just that the people of a nation tend to drop ideology and get annoyed at the foriegn guys with guns.
Peace.

What you did was continue to spout your liberal college ignorance .
Academia can always find an excuse for communism.
They thought Hitler was a great guy when he signed the non aggression pact.
To the point that they did everything they could to keep the US not only out of the war but to prevent aid to England.
They didn't oppose Hitler's concentration camps until the day he invaded Russia.

You know what Tom? Tim isn't the only one who's cranky. I find a cool video on a sniper and now I'm getting crap from every side because suddenly its not PC to shoot Nazis? You've what, got to be a registered Republican to get a permit to do so?  You and Rastus with your snide reverse elitism can both KMA. I'll leave Timothy out of this. Here's a news flash, it was a video about a private soldier. Who cares what side she fought on? French, (well, she fought so scratch that), Finnish, German, Russian Dutch, would it make a difference? You were a Marine for God's sake. You should know better than anyone that a grunt fights for their country and their unit (not in that order) and a rifleman's accomplishment's on the battlefield transcend ideology, as history is not a freaking morality play. And would you rather the Nazis had won? Give me a break.

Uh Tom, I was and am a libertarian. I've never glamorized a commie. You're wrestling a strawman. Its a lot easier to debate someone who is actually dealing with your positions rather than someone who assumes that you represent something they don't like. That's an Alinsky move Tovarich, and I'd prefer you addressed me rather than some mental image you have of lefty college guys, because I assure you we aren't the same animal. Me, I am not a conservative, but damned if I'm some hippie socialist either. Screw Stalin and the rest of his ilk. But giving me this crap over a war video? WTF?

You are most definitely not a libertarian, what you are is a sore assed fence sitter who lacks the knowledge and moral courage to take a stand on either side .
The only things in the "middle of the road" are painted lines and road kill.
You are either a conservative or a liberal, a capitalist or a communist, grow a spine and pick one.
And since you still haven't caught on I'll explain that I'm giving you crap about the foolishness of your later posts not about a video I didn't watch.

Its courage I lack? Well, young padawan, I seem to be taking a lot of incoming, and yet, I stand my ground. So no, I don't think its a lack of courage. And if you're going to berate me, be honest enough to watch the video first. Otherwise you lose all moral authority. If you think I'm a commie, you seriously haven't read a word I've posted in the years I've been here. Listen, watch, then post. It will do you good.

No, she had a couple boyfriends :)
Lighten up y'all.

We have bigger problems to be worrying about than arguing amongst ourselves over a long dead Russian sniper.

Only to a point.
America's current problems stem from the Dems long term love affair with Soviet style communism.
When we were guarding the Fulda gap we should have been patrolling Berkley.
