This is not a pleasant story as it is still ongoing. Local news now has either the same sicko moving North to my county, or someone copying the Miami-Dade cat killer. As I have 2 cats: Bob & Stretch, they are confined to the screened in patio.
They need to set a booby trap, or something. He better hope the law catches him before some of these cat owners.
I know how I would respond, and Haz, we would gladly post your bail.

Brutal cat killings trouble South Miami-Dade neighborhoods
A rash of gruesome cat killings has bewildered two suburban South Miami-Dade neighborhoods.

Along a quiet street in Cutler Bay, neighbors awoke last week to a startling discovery: mutilated cats left on display in the yards of family homes. Some skinned, others sliced across the stomach -- the bodies were left like talismans in some horror movie.
In all, city officials and police say, there have been about 20 cats reported found maimed and killed in Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay. Miami-Dade police, with the assistance of the county's animal services, are investigating the mystery but have made no arrests.
''We take a very dim view of this,'' said Detective Bobby Williams, a Miami-Dade police spokesman. ``We find it very disturbing an individual would do something like this to defenseless animals.''
''We're looking into whether or not these cases are linked,'' he said.
The rash of cat deaths, first reported last week, prompted Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn to issue this warning on Monday: ``Residents should keep their cats inside their homes until it has been determined who or what has caused these deaths and there is no longer a threat to the feline population of the village.''
On Tuesday, the Humane Society of the United States announced a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in what they said were ``serial cat killings.''
''This is particularly gruesome and egregious,'' said Jennifer Hobgood, the organization's Florida director. 'If you speak to the investigator, the phrase he used is that the cats are being left like `little trophies.' ''
A police report from a woman who found two cats in her yard in the 19700 block of Whispering Pines Road describes two mutilated cats: ``Both were sliced open and one was posed.''
Such was the case for Chris Quarles, whose 11-year-old cat Jack was found dead last week. A Miami-Dade school counselor, Quarles said it seems as though the killings were methodical.
''He was skinned from the belly all the way down and had cut marks on his back leg,'' he said.
``The police said some cats were missing up to a week and then showed up back at their [owner's] house dismembered and killed. Somebody is thinking about what he's doing.''
His cat was found dead Thursday, within a day of about 10 cats being found in the same neighborhood.
Said Cutler Bay Mayor Paul Vrooman: 'There are human victims in this and families' hearts are broken and they are going through grief as their pets are being killed.''
The scene was similar in Palmetto Bay, where Alicia Glatzer's husband found the body of one of the family's cats, Sarah, in the yard.
Part of her face was missing, her belly had been skinned and her intestines spilled onto the grass. Though it seemed unlikely, they thought the cat had been struck by a car. Then they heard news reports about the injuries inflicted on other cats nearby.
''We have two other cats,'' Alicia Glatzer said. ``My concern is every day when I walk out whether I'll find another dead cat outside.''
Barbara Wiesinger, 68, said she found the bodies of several cats in her Cutler Bay neighborhood before finding her 15-year-old calico, named Cami, a few houses away. Gone was part of the cat's face.
''Your mind can't wrap around the why of it, or even the how,'' she said. ``How did they get them and what are they going to do now.''
The reward is now $7500. It has been a disturbing story for a couple of weeks now, and the first one in my county was 20 minutes or so away.
I would so love to get a hold of this scumbag. The Everglades are big and close by, alligators need fattening up too. >:(

Don't forgetthe pythons! Hell you could use him as bait. Seriously though, this is how Dahmer got started. Animals first and then people. This guy seem to be moving in that direction. 1 enjoying pain and suffering 2 targeting pets, not strays 3 making sure the owners find them to inflict emotional distress. It is escalating. I would say the next thing to go missing might not be a cat. To quote Warren Zevon I'd be on the lookout for an "excitable boy". Good luck TW

I have very sharp knives and a good knowledge of skinning.

They say you can judge a man on how he treats animals...

I'm almost ashamed to admit that this time I agree with TAB AND FQ. But the fact is that FQ is right, this sick bastard needs to be stopped before he takes the next step, if he hasn't already.
-
Miami-Dade Sheriff's Dept. has already assigned a "profiler" for that very reason.
Think I need to get 1 more anti sick bast--- "tool" from the safe.
Perhaps the Stoeger Coach; 2 nice big barrels.
-
If they catch the SOB, the appropriate punishment would be to take him to the zoo and feed him to the big cats.
-
Skin um Haz. Then the everglades or the big cats.
-
He just needs to attempt to harm the right cat.

I think the earth is about to Implode. There has been several of these statements the last few days.. So you guys are either going "soft" or something big is about to happen

Ok.. now seriously this is terrible. I'm not saying that feral cats aren't a problem but peoples pets.. that is just wrong.

Which is, I suppose, my cue to say that even a blind pig finds an acorn now and again.

I've heard that acorns are good to eat if you boil the tannic acid out of them, is that true ?

I believe the American Indians ate them.. made a mush or cereal.

Acorns contain bitter, unhealthful tannin in varying concentrations. Here's the way to remove it and make the acorns edible. Ignore this recipe if you’re a squirrel, because you’re already adapted to handling concentrated tannin.
Use acorns in the white oak group, those species with blunt-tipped leaves. Acorns in the red oak group, with pointy-tipped leaves (the tips resemble needles) contain too much bitter, unhealthful tannin to leach out easily with the following method
1. Boil acorns in water 1-2 minutes to loosen their shells.
2. When cool, cut them into quarters with a paring knife to shell more readily.
3. Shell the acorns, discarding any insect-damaged, internally blackened ones.
4. Put 1-1/2 cups of acorns in a blender, fill almost to the top with water, and blend until finely chopped, the size of rice grains (to create more surface area for the boiling water to act on).
5. Boil the acorn bits 5-10 minutes in water, and taste one of the largest pieces. If it has any trace of bitterness, change the water again, repeating this procedure until all the bitterness is gone.
6. Drain and use within a couple of days (acorns are very perishable, raw or cooked) or freeze.
7. You can dry acorns in a food dehydrator, or on a cookie sheet in an oven on the lowest setting, with the door ajar to release the water vapor
8. When the acorns are dry, you can grind them into flour in a grain mill, spice grinder, or blender.

Where I come from, cats and dogs were regulated by the same leash laws. Must be on a leash. I know i will anger a few folks here, but pets need to be under the control of their owner and not let out to roam the neighborhood. in one summer I sent 23 cats to the pound (livetrap) and killed 2. The two I killed were attempting to get into my back yard birdhouse and deserved what they got, a quick clean pellet in the brain. I just got sick and tired of cat crap in my wife's flowerbeds and the stink of the urine.
Now, the mutilation of these cats is going WAY out of line and I hope this sick individual gets whats coming to him. NO animal deserves this kind of treatment.

The neighbor's let their cats roam free and it night, you can see a dozen going through the neighborhood. Any roaming animals I consider strays, although I've not done anything to get rid of them, I wouldn't mind them vanishing. But I agree, the mutilation is just a sick person feeding off a morbid desire, freaks.
-
I have had cats in heat around my place and i chase them away with my airsoft, im not going to kill them. Some people out there are sick.
-
Lots of cats in my neighbor hood, but most of them are indoor only cats. A few let there cats out, but it hasen't been a problem. I haven't seen a stray cat in a long time. If I lived in a rural area and there were feral cats or dogs causing damage I would make sure the problem was taken care of.

If I remember correctly, this is how Jeffery Dahmer started out. His animals of choice were squirrels and rabbits. Bill T.

The person who is is killing the felines and posting them in the owners yard is a neighbor or friend. Who ever it may be has a serious psychological problem and may be a threat to the cat owners. I would be extra cautious in those neighborhoods where this is taking place. Or you have a whacked out nursing student who is hacking away at cats after failing anatomy. You know they use cats to train nursing students cause they are the closest animals to humans? True story.
-
But then again you may find a chinese restaraunt that needs extra protein. ;D

HEY! We never cut up cats when I went through nursing school. We only did pigs and frogs........ and real live dead people.
We couldn't disect the cats anyway, after "harvesting" there just wasn't enough left to look at. :o

I know a lot of the caribbean populace practice Santaria which is ritual sacrifices of animals on their altars. Is this what is happening?

OK to clarify
I AM NOT A CAT PERSON ( at all, in any way. if you are looking for your cat look under my tiers type of Bloke )
I think I am now on Hazcat hated list
Ok.. now seriously this is terrible. I'm not saying that feral cats aren't a problem but peoples pets.. that is just wrong.
ferrel cats I have no issues filling it with lead ( and have done ) ;)
as for a pet well IMO it should be inside or set up a cat run / escape prof the back yard so it stays in there (it is possible as I have seen it done )
I have found a lot of cat owners ( not all ) just make sure they are fed and don't really care what they get up to just come and go as they please if they want a cat then they MUST be responsible for them like dog owners have to be here, as with dogs they have to be controlled, registered and any damage caused by the dog the owners are responsible to pay for the damage.
I am not sure about over there however here, cats cause sooo much damage to the wildlife and are responsible for the extinction of a few native species.
I don't have an issue as long as they look after them...
however if that grey cat pisses on my car once more............................... you work it out ;)

Indeed, but the funy thing is I didn't need to say it to get the point across. If you want me to be explicit, here goes. More Haitan and Afto-cuban immigrants =more crime. Can we please have a sane immigration policy? I mean immigration is fine, but when some groups are shown to cause trouble and others aren't, isn't it a no brainer as to who to give the quotas to? Why import trouble?

One step above you Phil. I'm not a "PET" person.. I'd just as well put one in your puppy as I would your kitty too.. No mental issues but I don't trust animals that I don't know. Been bitten too many times on Fire and Rescue calls to care anymore..
I'm more of a cat person than a dog person though.. just because of the previous mentioned bites. dogs are generally bigger and stronger and outright aggressive.. cats are usually in defense mode if they bite..

Citizens are citizens and immigrants are immigrants. Plus race has nothing to do with it. Most Afro-Britons and thoses from Africa are just fine. Its not race, its culture. You import those of a violent criminal culture, no matter what skin tone (cf the Russian mob) and you get trouble. I am merely saying that when assigning national quotas, crimes per capita of that group should be considered.

That has nothing to do with the FBI promulgated fact that well over 50% of crimes in America are committed by Blacks. Since Blacks only comprise about 1/4 of the population I will let you draw your own conclusion.

I've been away a couple times. ;D There is a reason I always come back. NH and VT are 2 of the 3 least ethniclly diverse states in the country.
