I don't know about that.  I seem to recall that my Black History book noted that the KKK formed right after the South lost the Civil War and was made up of people resentful for the loss of slavery.

BTW:  This class was taught in a Roman Catholic private school by white nuns in 1982/1983.

Here's a little more on the subject.  Straight from the White House!  Yes our own Government.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/andrewjohnson

Quote
Andrew Johnson was one of the most unfortunate of Presidents. Arrayed against him were the Radical Republicans in Congress, brilliantly led and ruthless in their tactics.

Quote
By the time Congress met in December 1865, most southern states were reconstructed, slavery was being abolished, but "black codes" to regulate the freedmen were beginning to appear.

Quote
A few months later Congress submitted to the states the Fourteenth Amendment, which specified that no state should "deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

All the former Confederate States except Tennessee refused to ratify the amendment; further, there were two bloody race riots in the South

You believe something published by the White House ?
That pretty much says all that needs saying about your opinion.
Ulmus's opinions:
Detroit is not a shithole (spell check verifies "shithole" is one word ).
It wasn't the Unions and Dems that converted Detroit from showcase to shithole.
Blacks aren't the authors of their own misfortunes.
Not some one I would ask for betting advice.
by the way Ulmus, you still haven't presented a viable theory to counter my opinions.
You're still sticking to your knee jerk reaction of "That's not true" (In shrill, shrewish tones )

We're still dealing with carpetbaggers down here.

An example, While in Coastal NC, I lived in an unincorporated section of Pender County... The County Seat was a 30-45 minute drive away. No local cops, strictly County Deputies....Just two local VFD's or it went to the county...

A knock at my door one weekend introduced me to a "yankee" transplant from Rhode Island....Wanted me to sign a petition to get our little town "incorporated"...Local Cops, Mayor, Town Council, (modest local tax),.....

I asked him why he left "the North",.....his response was it was too expensive, too cold, too many layers of city, state, and federal taxes.

My simple response was why than are you peddling the same sh*t you left down here? Moreover, I need "another layer" of incompetent gov't?

He left rather perplexed without a signature,...and when presented to a vote, was shot down overwhelmingly...

Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor;

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

interesting there TW
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them
