When I started shaving, the best razor was a Gillette two-sided, blue blade safety razor. You replaced the blade every Monday morning and shaved for a week. Each blade cost about a nickel.
Then, someone came along with an "injector" that gave you one edge that was sharper than the blue blade. You replaced it every Monday and shaved for a week. But it cost a little more--maybe $0.20 each.
Then, someone came along with the Twin-Trac--two blades in one razor that gave a "closer" shave. They were great. You replaced the blade each Monday and it cost a little more. The cost? About a buck.
Then, some bright bulb decided that three blades were better than two, and a new "disposable" razor was introduced. It cost about twice as much as earlier versions, but it gave you another week of shaves. The cost was around $2 - $3 per unit.
I just picked up a new 4-blade disposable razor. They cost around $10.
And I saw an ad for a 5-blade razor for about $14.95.
I recently found my Grandpa's straight razor. With a hone (I have his hone) and a strop (I'll need one of those) it should last as long as I do.
Point is, some things are just unnecessary advancements.
Three barrels on a shotgun? Give me a double barrel coach gun, or a Mossberg pump, and I think I am as "state of the art" as I need to be.
FWIW,
