There were many republicans, REAL republicans, not RINO's like Powell who stayed home on election day rather than vote for a RINO like McCain.  Hell, I had planned to be one of them, until he put Palin on the ticket.  I went out on election day and voted for Sarah Palin and the liberal old fart she was running with!

Same here.
Just because a guy is a good Soldier does not mean his political opinions are worth a crap, look at Smedley Butler, It was MacArthur s political comments that gave Truman the rope to hang him, remember Al "I'm in charge here" Haig ?
While many in the military are very good at "office" politics, the ones like Ike who can translate that to the national and international scene are rare.

That is (another) pet peeve of mine.

That statement is taken totally out of context.  He said and did nothing wrong.

I remember that very interview.  You talk about the lefty MSM blowing something out of all proportion!

You don't hear too much from Gen. Tommy Franks, or Gen.  Schwarzkopf  today.....

That's too bad.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

No, actually he was wrong, the VP was still available so he WAS NOT in charge, however it WAS the media that blew it ll out of proportion the same way the treasonous media and congress opposed and ridiculed everything RR did or said in regards to the USSR and Central America.

Ton,

I don't know if you saw or remember the interview.

The press was aking himn 'who is in charge'.  He said that the VP was in the air and on the way.  That they were in constant contact and that any major decisions would be made by the VP.  The press kept asking 'but who is in charge'.  He again explained that the VP was.  The press persisted 'who is in charge'.  Exasperated he finally said'  "I have told you that the VP is in charge but if you are asking who is in charge here right now (meaning of the staff in the White house) then I am."

It was manufactured by the press.

Powell is a traitor to both the republican party and the country. I can't believe I ever had an ounce of respect for this tool.

He took an oath to defend the constitution and now he fully supports an idiot who is trying to destroy it.
