You would hope they would drop the road tax as incentive to switch. Lp burns cleaner and more importantly we produce it here. If filling stations were set up to handle it, it would make great sense for fleet vehicles and urban commuters. I do wonder about safety though.

Safety is no more an issue than gasoline.  The tanks are heavy and tough.  I've seen trucks hit right on the tank and not leak.  If you reduce the capacity enough by denting it will vent, and the vents are at the highest point of the vehicle.

There is near zero spill possibility during filling.  Both dispensers and tanks have high flow shut offs that won't allow a spill.  Besides, once you remove the pressure lp vaporizes in most temps and will quickly dissipate in the air.  The biggest safety concern is that lp is heavier than air unlike gasoline.  If there is a fuel leak it will settle to the lowest point, and that is why you won't see lp fueled vehicles stored inside.  They can be in an enclosed building for repair and maintenance, but they are stored outside.  Nothing like a small leak, and then someone spraying sparks from a grinder into the center drain gutter in a shop  :o

It definately seems worth pursuing, at least in the South. If you were to give filing stations a 100% write off for installtion and a tax incentive on purhase of a vehicle for the first 5 years or so, it could catch on. Particularly for fleets. Many city busses already use it and adding an above ground propane tank has to be cheaper than an inground disel tank. Yet many stations sell plenty of diesel.

Bikes, Tom, made of recyled wood and scrap metal that has been reforged. The weight of the glue holding the saw dust toghther helps fight obesity as well. Plus, given that they are made with hand tools, it not only cuts down on oil, but electricity. The fact that they cost the same as a small car keeps artisans in business and helps fight consumerism. Horses would be ok, except for the methane and the fact we would be enslaving animals.  ;D
