Oldest's USPSA Intro
« on: June 24, 2010, 07:40:29 PM »
So for Father's Day we all loaded up and the oldest (16) and a friend from the Rescue Squad/Navy, Joe Walker, tried their hand at a local USPSA match.  They were shooting Production, Kasey with her M&P9 and Joe with Gayle's G17, and I shot Single Stack.  The usual suspects were mostly there but we didn't get to squad with the people I normally shoot with.  Then to top it off we started the day on the hardest of the five stages.  Plate rack then 6 poppers plus a half dozen paper.  The rack kicked her butt and the other RO rattled her a little.  She kept going but you could tell she was getting frustrated with the constant "help" from multiple people telling her different things.  She knows they didn't mean it but it was getting to her.  She might have started to put less effort in but never quite.  For that I am proud of her.  Our friend Cindi is going to try to get her and Gayle over to practice "WITHOUT the boys!!!"  It should help with her confidence, which is all she really needs.  The accuracy is there, the speed will come.

The youngest (7)wants to try next but she needs a little more trigger time.
When seconds mean the difference between life and death, the police will be minutes away.

Good for you J, 1st match anything is challenging the unknown and USPSA is a fast paced game, I remember when I started, it was intimidating, but I liked the experience so much I kept coming back, and listening to the old timers, then started getting it right. Let her know, nobody stumbles into the game and wins, but if you like it, learn it and then reap the rewards. Let her know to start with, compete against your last score, not the other people, and that's all, don't let outside influences you don't know make you do things you don't YET understand. Competition is 90% mental, once you understand completely, the fundamentals.

My old Mantra " When in doubt, focus on the front sight and press the trigger straight back into your hand " and " you can't miss fast enough to win " Best of luck to her and you. ;D
