i liked the P250 a lot...it reminded me of my P225/P6, which to me was a high water mark for Sig Sauer carry guns. Sig Prez Ron Cohen, in my last visit to Sig at the end of the year, told me that the P250 would be the platform on which Sig builds for the next decade. The super ergonomics makes the 250 point great and shoot light, even for a 9mm. The DAO trigger pull is, to me, on par with Para's LDA system which is my standard of comparison (I have shot a Para P18 LDA 9mm in practical competition, so I have the most experience in that platform). The price point is reasonable for Sigs.
There's an intrinsic contradiction in interchangeable-parts guns, though...what a gun company wants is for you to buy more guns from them, so they offer a variety of flavors...think Kimber...1911 lollipops in every conceivable caliber, configuration and state of dress. But if you want more, you've got to buy another lollipop, not just the stick. Ron Cohen, who came from Kimber, is the acknowledged master of the multi-flavored lollipop; look at how he built out Sig's 1911 line.
The P250 is an unlimited lollipop with a magic replaceable stick. Want a different flavor? Buy the lime stick and, voila!
The contradiction is that sticks are substantially less expensive than lollipops. Last year Lollipops Unlimited sold 100 lollipops; this year LU sells 20 lollipops and 80 magic sticks. Further, return customers only want more sticks...they've already got the lollipop part. So LU has to keep increasing the market for lollipops to offset the lost revenue on the sticks. Another thing LU can do is mark up the sticks, which have a much higher margin than complete lollipops, and encourage customers to "collect the whole set" of sticks.
I see the interchangeability factor as very important in LEO sales; less so with civilians. Yeah, I think being able to change calibers is just too kool — and the P250 is absolutely a technological tour-de-force! — but it remains to be seen whether such a system passes the "Michael's lifestyle" test; ie, if I got it, would I use it as intended?
